No, absolutely not. It's a classic and the name of a US state, for heaven's sake. Is the Virgin Mary "left-of-centre"? I see your point about possible teasing, but .. well, I'm one of those people who believes a name will be teased only if the kid is teasable, and if the kid is teasable, his/her name will be teased even if it's John or Cathy. There are worse things to be named for.
I can imagine using it, because it's my DH's grandmother's name (she's still alive, barely). And I love the nn Virgie. I can totally picture it on a little girl.
Then again, maybe I just am not sensitive about the idea of virginity. I'm also a fan of the name Virgil for a boy. I get enough flak, though, when I bring it up, I probably would not use it. Just the partial soundalike seems to be too much for people if it is a boy name.
