Re: Alexa
in reply to a message by Lily
I don't really like it, but I do find it to be the least annoying of the frilly Alex-esque nicknames. I wouldn't mind hearing it as a nickname for Alexandr(i)a.I would have to agree that the Alex on girls trend is on the decline finally. But not on the rise for boys. Alex for boys has been steadily popular for boys for quite a while. I see Alex-y names for girls as dated to the 90s, but not terribly so.I don't know any Alexas, but I did go to high school with a Lexi (not sure if it was a nn or not) and know an Alexi and an Alexis around my age. Other than that I've never met any girls with Alex-type names.Alexa seems a little more grounded, sophisticated, intelligent, etc. than Lexi, Alexi, etc. They seem froofy and ditzy to me. I do, however, love Alex as a nn on a girl and always have.I prefer Alexandra out of those. I love Alexandra. It's so strong and classic, but pretty. Alexandria is too place-namey for me, and Alexis is too masculine.

Well, I think it's on the rise for boys because Alexander has entered the top 10 for the first time and I see it rising further, maybe even to the number 1 spot.
