I think people's wishes should be respected regarding their own name's pronunciation. I think an accent is to be expected when someone who doesn't speak the language of origin pronounces a name, but one should make an effort not to butcher the name. (So if Manuel introduces himself "mahn-HUEL," it's acceptable for a non-Spanish-speaker to say "man-WELL" but not "manual").
