I hate it. It even sounds pretentious on a boy, but on a girl?! I know a little girl with this name, though. And her mother seems so 'normal'. LOL.

Sounds like an aspirational name, a la Harvard, Yale or Princeton. I'd stay away from major university names.

I know a little girl named Berkley. I like it. I don't think I'd use it, but I like it. I've also heard of a boy named Berkeley, but I've never met him.

I just think of the college, and the 60s and hippies.

It's not my favorite it makes me think of a college first and then a little boy with preppy parents.A girl named Berkeley should propbly have a rather feminine middle name:Berkeley Grace
Berkeley Hope
Berkeley Rose
Berkeley Faith
Berkeley Marie
Berkeley Paige
Berkeley Isabel
Berkeley Gabrielle
Berkeley AbigailThe ending makes me think of Keeley which I like a whole lot better! :)

It's more "unisex-surname" to me than it is girly. I could see it on a boy or girl, and I'm not sure I like it. Part of me wants to, but I keep thinking of the university in the California."No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

My first reaction was....it's a dog's name. That goes with the name Chelsea as well.

Umm, I could be wrong, . . . but I've been told that in the U.K. "berk" is bad slang for a woman's genitalia. (Equivalent to c**t in the U.S.) If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. This might not concern you if you don't live there. But once I heard that I couldn't get it out of my mind. Then again, Berkely isn't my style for a girl anyway so I haven't worked that hard at it. For what it's worth.

Your right its cockney rhyming slang

To call someone a berk isnt very complimentory where I live so the name Berkeley could cause the child bearing it to be teased it may be different where you live
