Francis
Randomly, my husband announced the other day that he liked the name Francis (for a boy). My immediate thought was that it had high teasing potential, but it's slowly growing on me. What do you think of the name Francis?

I like it!If you are worried about teasing, there are always the scrappier nicknames Frank and Frankie that he could use. I personally think it's a great name.

I think it's nice, I like it a lot. It's old-fashioned now, but in a nice way and that's why I think it would work for a little boy these days.

I like it, and I think spelled with a "i" it's perfectly adequate for a boy.

I like it quite a lot. It grew on me over the years because it is a saint's name.

I do like the history that the name has. Thanks!

I think it sounds better on a girl (but spelled Frances).

Love the name, probably would only use it as a middle name (that's just me though). I wish more people would use it though, I think it's one of those names that can really grow with a person.

Oooh, I like that... "it's one of those names that can really grow with a person." Thank you!

I think it's a good name. It's been used for a long time and borne by several saints and great men. So I really don't think there is anythig tease-worthy in the name. If you like it, go for it!

I adore Francis for a boy. It's so intelligent and sophisticated. Where's the teasing potential? Because it sounds like Frances for a girl? Pish-posh. There's no real way to anticipate gender assignments of names anymore. Just give him a traditionally masculine mn and hope for the best. It's all parents of little boys can do now anyway.I've always thought the nn Fitz would be cute. :-)

I'm so glad to hear that people seem to like it! I do love the nn Fitz, and it never occurred to me to use it for Francis (my immediate thought was Frank, which I also like). Thank you for the suggestion!

You're welcome. I forgot to add that the name Franciscus could be used if you fear Francis is too girly. As I said above, I don't think it is. But just in case you get cold feet. Love the nn Frank, by the way.

Love it! I think it's a very masculine, distinguished-sounding name. I'd seriously considering this for a future child of my own.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. As I said, the name is definitely growing on me, and it's nice to hear reassurances that other people like the name, too.

I've always loved it! My husband is the opposite-- he doesn't really like it. He thinks it's too girly. I think it's a very strong name.

That's funny! I did worry about the "girly" issue, but since I tend towards softer-sounding names for boys anyway, that fear is fading. Of course, this is all hypothetical right now, but it will be good to keep in mind for the future!
