Sunny?
What are some names that Sunny could be short for? I just can't get behind Susanna because of the folk song, and Susanne is my best friend's sister's name. I really like Sunniva or Sunneva, because Sunny is such an obvious nickname, and if she ever wanted to go by something more sophisticated she could use Eva, but do you think that's just to Norwegian? Any suggestions for other names?

Sunniva, nn Sunny, would be terrific. It's not *too* Norwegian at all.Other ideas:Soleil / Solana
Marisol
Sonya / Sonia (I know a woman who used this for her Sunny)
Siobhan
Alexandra (traditionally, Sunny is a nn for Alexandra)
Alison
Celeste (celestial = sunny, too cute?)
Sonnet
Apollonia / Apolline (Apollo is the sun god, so why not?)
Tamsin
Cynthia
Jacintha / Jacinda / Jacinta / Hyacinth

Some names listed on the site with *sun* in them: Assunçäo, Assunta, Asun, Asunción, Aysun, Josune, Sunday, Sunita, Sunitha, Suniti, Sunngifu, Sunnifa, Sunniva, Sunshine.I can also think of Sundown and Sunrise, though those sound slightly 'hippyish'.I'm not a huge fan of the name Sunniva, but I wouldn't mind seeing it on someone else's child.

Sunday is a great idea. :-)

I agree that Sunday is pretty, but don't you think it would be weird if she wasn't actually born on a Sunday?

Oh, I can overlook anything if I love a name enough. When I meet an April I don't wonder if she was born in April or not. It just doesn't even register in my mind. The same with a male Noel -- I think, "Wow. What a great name."But I take your point. It makes me think of the Elton John lyric about a child named Easter born on a Tuesday -- or something like that.On balance, I say go for it if you really love it. Sunday morning with a cup of coffee, the Times crossword puzzle and the radio gently playing in the background is a state of mind, not merely a unit of time. (I'm so full of *&^%):-D

Sunniva. As Sunneva, it might be easier to sound out, but it loses its charm. I think Sunny might be "cute", but it could be a challenge to come up with a sophisticated name.Maybe Sonya?

The only thing that came to mind was Sunshine, but I don't think that's what you're going for, since she only has Sunshine or Sunny. Which, depending on the person, probably won't age well. The only Sunny that I know, that's her full first name and it suits her perfectly and will always suit her.I like Sunniva / Sunneva.
