Arlette.
I think the "ar" sound at the beginning makes the name "balanced" with the soft suffix, -lette.
Arlette.
These are just my random thoughts, but what do you think?

As a name standing by itself, it's a good name.
To me, though, it's an "old lady" name, as I know a few in my community, and they are all about 70.

I prefer Arletta. I know a sweet lady by this name.
Arlette is one of my favorites! I agree with you about the somewhat harsh 'ar' sound being balanced out with the 'lette' suffix. My favorite part about the name, though, is the meaning--I love eagles, they're always so free and independent. It's an all around great name, better, in my mind, than Charlotte and other similar names.
It sounds and looks like a very Southern name. I just looked it up on here and I can't believe it has so much history! I kind of thought it was a feminized version of Arnold, or a mashing together of two names.
