Re: Agnes

It was my paternal grandmother's name.
When I was pregnant, I was discussing names for a possible girl with my mother-in-law, and the possibility of names used to honor family members. She asked me what my grandmother's name was, and when I said, "Agnes", she said, "Oh, noooo!" in a horrified tone.
This kind of bothered me.
But it bothered me in the sense of "I can criticize a family member, you can't" and "I can beat up my little brother, but you'd better not!" because, actually, I have to admit, I find Agnes incredibly ugly.
