I really like Jack too. If I ever had a James or a John, I'd probably call him Jack. I like the fact that it's simple and handsome too, that it's down-to-earth and not pretentious, it's rather classic, and it's very easy going.

It can stand on it's own most of the time, but I prefer it as a nickname for John, James, Jonathan, etc. seem a lot more professional to me than Jack and I would like my son to use those in a workplace environment. For example, John Miller sounds a lot more serious than Jack Miller.

I love the name Jack!! Love it, love it, love it. And it can totally stand on its own. You would not believe the amount of MNs I've thought of for this name but instead of listing them I'll just say it goes with almost anything. I like Jack Thatcher for a more olden-time version and Jack Riley for a little boy just for starters.

Jack can definately be used as a full name!! (That was another name on the list for my nephew Max ;) )

Jack can definitely stand on its own. It's pointless to waste a full name on a kid when you're just going to call him a nn that doesn't sound like it at all. A lot of names go with Jack:

I like Jack as well, but as a name nerd it bothers me to see it used as a full name. The rest of the world would disagree with me -- I've very commonly heard people say things like, "If you're just going to call him/her by [nickname], why would you bother naming him/her [full name]?" It especially happens with nicknames like Jack and Sadie which don't really make sense unless you know their etymologies.

Anyway, I think Jack can stand on its own but I wouldn't do it. I would use John nickname Jack.

I think Jack is good on it's own, but I prefer it as a nickname for Jackson simply because I love both names and could use both that way.
