Jocasta
I think Jocasta is a beautiful name, which I would like to see on an actual person. I think it is my current No. 3 fave.
Do you think people will recognize it as Oedipus's mother? I think I'd be willing to overlook that, just because I like the sound so much.
Daring, but still darling, in my opinion.

I don't know if everyone gets the association, personally I can't get past it and don't think it's really useable.
I really don't associate it with Oedipus at all. For some reason, it reminds me of the card game Canasta... the -asta part, that is.
I love it and would probably use it. It's in my top 10. I do think people will think of that Jocasta though.
Well, nobody's perfect. LOL. It's still a beautiful name. I'd still be willing to use it, probably.
I don't like the sound of it. Plus, aside from Oedipus's mother, it only makes me think of a character from books I like by that name-- an old blind lady in the 1700s. Other than those two characters I've never heard the name before.
I agree that it's a beautiful name, and I don't think that the average person would recognize it as Oedipus' mother. I didn't. :-D
Eh, I make the Oedipus connection immediately. First time I heard the name was reading the plays of Oedipus this past year actually. I don't even like Gertrude due to the reference of Hamlet's mother and she was a complete airhead but at least that name can have other associations. I don't know, I couldn't name my daughter Ophelia as much as I love the name.
It's really not my style. I don't think you need to worry about the Oedipus story, as most people probably aren't too familiar with it and wouldn't make the connection.
Jocasta is an indubitably beautiful name -- the association doesn't repel me.
