Jack
What is your opinion of the name Jack? Would you use it? I am speaking of the name Jack on its own, not as a nickname.I like it, and it always makes me breathe a sigh of relief amidst a sea of other overzealously fanciful modern names. I really cannot emphasize enough how tasteful I think it is to be understated.Jack Benjamin
Jack Edmund
Jack Henry
Jack Samuel
Jack Silas

My absolute favourite boys name!!!! I don't care how popular it is and I would absolutely use it by itself!

I like Jack very much, so much so that we considered it for Anna had she been a boy (my dh's bf who had passed away was named Jack, just Jack).Your combos are nice too. I especially like Jack Benjamin, Jack Edmund and Jack Henry. Jack Edmund is my fave.

I like Jack and much prefer it to the overly embellished surname, Jackson which is climbing the charts. But I actually prefer John, without any nicknames, over Jack. To me, John (along with Paul) is the ultimate in understated.

I love Jack! I know it's common, but I too have always found it so simple, fresh, and just wonderful. I would use it easily, and I'm always torn on whether I would use it on its own or as a nickname (I tend to lean towards the nickname), but my husband doesn't like it so it's out anyway.Jack Benjamin is excellent. Although I am of course partial to Benjamin. I also really like the combos Jack Addison (someone around here mentioned it once and I really liked it) and Jack Oliver.

I love the name Jack, it's a really strong name... the only thing that would keep me from using it, however, is that it's really popular in movies and on TV.I do really love the name John, and actually named a character in my book John.

I like it. I would use it if it wasn't my ex boyfriends name!

I've heard Jack described as a rugged and masculine name, and I agree. It's quite handsome and strong. It certainly is capable of standing alone and doesn't need to be a nn for anything, least of all John. I dislike nns that sound nothing like their full names anyway.

I quite like Jack, but only as a nickname for John. I would never use it on its own.

I like Jack too...but I really adore it as a nickname for John. Although it is rather classic...I'd much, much rather see a baby Jack than a baby Braiden. And I agree with you: I'm not a huge fan of extravagant modern names. I definitely prefer the simple, old-time classics and I will swoon over a nice, simple name more than a pretentious fancy one (I was beaming upon hearing that Tom Brady named his son John Edward Thomas, which I absolutely adore). Jack Benjamin is my favourite combo out of the one's you listed. John Edmund Francis "Jack" is a combo I came up with, so I'm not as fond of Edmund with just Jack. Jack Henry and Jack Silas seem too short, but Jack Samuel has a really nice flow.

I really like Jack, and my DBF and I are trying to fit it into a name somewhere. =PMy favorite is Jack Edmund by far. I like the others a lot, but for some reason, I want to use Samuel Jack instead of Jack Samuel. All of the combos are really classy, though, and would be great on a young boy, teenager, middle-ager, or old man.

I don't find it understated. I feel like it is a self-conscious little dagger of a modern name, like Max. Ugly and pretentiously unpretentious.

Funny, I loathe Max but love Jack. I suppose Max annoys me because it feels like a trendy celebrity name, and Jack doesn't.
