I've had many nicknames over the years...
Elizabeth Jane
E.J. (my nn as a baby b/c Elizabeth Jane was a handful to write)
Lizard (don't ask, that was a few years ago)
Liza (I was at summer camp)
Lizzie (My piano instructor calls me this)
Boba (I hate this one...but it's my most consistent nn)
Beth (a former math teacher called me this)
Be (My brother called me this when he was a baby because he had trouble saying my name)
Jane (this one's recent)
Liz (people sometimes called me that when I was little)
Fred (in honor of Fred Weasley...my cousin goes by George for the same reason)
Hedwig (for my first year of German...this is a family name)
Eliza-Beth (an extremely annoying nickname that my friend came up with...in revenge I called her Shenanigan-Doah instead of Shenandoah)At the moment, I just go by Elizabeth (with family and friends), Jane (with classmates and a few friends), Fred (with my cousin), and Lizzie (with my piano instructor).

Rarelysomeone calls me Lil. Usually my mom or my husband; once in a great while my dad or one of my sisters. No one ever calls me Lily, which you'd think would be obvious. Been waitin for it my whole life, but no.No, if anyone calls me anything besides Lillian, mostly it's Honey or Baby or Mom. :p

My name's Kelly; my parents actually picked that because you can't really shorten it. Still, I get Kel sometimes, and one of my friends calls me Kellz. I don't mind them since I'm Kelly most of the time. I also respond to Jamie (my twin sister's name; we're twins, we must be the same, right? Grr.), Carla (I hate it, but that's what I was assigned in Spanish class), and Nancy / Katie / Mary Anne / Susie / etc.- names of some relatives, since everyone in my family manages to confuse each other.

Normally Chrissy which I dislike.I'm called Christina, so it's a very normal nn I got there... My mum always called me Stina when I was young which I prefer a lot to Chrissy, but it didn't really stick... My cousin calls me Tina, but I simply hate it, and she's the only one who ever calls me that. Our neighbours came up with Chris for some reason, and I really do like it.

Jean-Jeanie. I'm nearly always called that, Jeanie. and sure, I like it.

My name is Siobhan. My mother tried to give us names that couldn't be nicknamed. Anyway my brother and my neighbour used to call me Vaun and Vaunie when we were little - it didn't stick though. Some of my friends call me Shiv,Shev,Siv,Siobh,Siobhie,Shivers etc. I like it because it's a spontaneous gesture of affection. I don't think of myself as Shiv but I like when they say it. I get creeped out when people I don't know well shorten my name. My boss used to call me Siobhanín sometimes. I have gotten Siobhanín a few times, always from older men for some reason!

Hannah = "Stan"Or Stannah, or Stanneth Winstanley, or Stannah and the Singing Stairlifts.. etc. It's not exactly pretty, but I'm used to it.

My name's Brooke. My mum purposely picked a name that couldn't easily be shortened or whatever, as she thinks it takes away from the power of a name. So what do people do? Lengthen it! I'm mostly Brookie, sometimes coupled with rhymes of Brookie. Occasionally Cookie from one friend, Boogy from another, Brookles from a few people, including a teacher. B2 (long story) from another friend, and Bebop or B-doody from another. Two people call me Brookster. I have campaigned for Boo in the past lol but I don't think it works that way.I don't mind nicknames, as long as I like the person using it. I don't mind Brookie, although sometimes I find it a bit cutesy (there's a character on a show I watch atm called Brooke and every time someone calls her Brookie it makes my skin crawl). I went through a stage in my teens when I signed everything 'brooki' coz it looked cute lol but I'm over it now.

Nat = SneedMy name is Nat, but my family nickname is Sneed. I'm pretty saure I've got relatives who think my name is actually Sneed. Here's the story: My father is a huge fan of W.C. Fields. In one film, Fields is on a train and he begins to talk about Sneed Hern. Sneed Hern is very important and everyone should be excited and anxious that he is arriving. However, no one ever sees Sneed (incidentally, this is because Sneed Hern doesn't exist). When my mother was pregnant with me, my father began to refer to me as Sneed. I was very, very important, and everyone was excited and anxious about my arrival, but no one ever saw me. The nickname stuck, and continues to this day. On a side note, my brother Michael was referred to as Egbert while in the womb, but my mother refused to let it become a nickname like Sneed had. Edit: I forgot to mention, I love being called Sneed.

That's awesome! I wish my nicknames were half as interesting as yours. I love ones with a funny story or weird convoluted trains-of-thought behind them. I have a friend called Vanessa who I used to toy with nicknaming Lockie. Vanessa -> Ness -> Loch Ness -> Lockie. Never did though.

-Kitten (short version of an older nickname, Cuvil Kitten, which is very apt)

My name: AlexisMy Nickname: LexiYeah, I like my nickname. Before I was born, my mom's dad was dying and he said that I would always be his "Lexi Love", so since then, that's what everyone has called me.

Melissa nn Missi. No, I don't like it. I did when I was little, but it doesn't really fit me now. I've been trying like crazy to get everyone to just call me Melissa. So far, I've only managed to get my mom and my co-workers to call me Melissa. It's getting to the point where I cringe when someone says Missi. I would even prefer Mel at this point.

I'm Marjolijn, sometimes my nn is Mar, but most people that don't use Marjolijn call me Mojo. I quite like Mojo :)

Technically, my name is Stephanie Stevie.I went by Stevie until I was in third grade at which time I choice to be called Stephanie, but I hated being called Steph - and honestly I'm not a Stephanie nor a Steph. So during High School I went back to Stevie.I don't really care what people call me - friends tend to call me Stevie, while family call me whatever they knew me as most (I don't really care - and honestly I got tired of fighting it...) and I let teachers call me Stephanie, unless they see the "Stevie" by my name on the student list or they finally realize that Stevie S. is the same person as Stephanie S. while grading papers. My cousin and best friend call me Steffie. On the net I tend to be Stevie but I sometimes go by Anie just so I can avoid the "I'm a girl" conversation. When I get older I'll probably be Stephanie professionally and Stevie around friends & such. I could legally be either so it's not a big deal.
EDIT: I probably should also say that I've occasionally been called Steve. Which isn't a big deal since there really is no way to shorten Stevie... Well I guess it could shortened to Vi or TV (I've been called that a few times as well) or even Evie... but no one ever realizes that. lol

As a Kimberly, I've called Kim and Kimmy mostly. My mom sometimes just picks a random syllable from my name and calls me that. My dad calls me ChrisKim because he starts to say my sister's name before correcting himself. That's pretty much it. I don't really care about my nicknames, Kim or Kimberly, whichever. I don't really like people I don't know well calling me Kimmy though. Not to be snobbish or anything, just it's very cutesy and calling me it feels like they're being familiar with me when they're not. That's my only peeve with them.

Breanne - I am usually called Bre or Bre-Bre. Breah (a combo of me and my friend Leah's name) and Annica (a combo of me an my friend Jessica's name)

My name is Kristina, and for the most part, it is the only name I go by.Kristy- I don't like it, don't hate it. Only family and a few close friends call me this. Kitty or Kitts- Really only a couple of online friends call me this, but I do prefer it to Kristy.

Well, my name is Carolin and I have always been nicknamed Caro by almost everybody (well maybe expect my grandparents and teachers). I really like it, it's short and flows very easily.

Jennifer- Jenny, Jen, Marie (mn), Nenny (by my two year old nephew and his mom mainly), Suzy (by our mom who still gets us confused), LoriJennySteffiSue (mom was mad at all of us for being too loud in the car, and our names came out as one), Russian name- HS was Tatjana, UW was Tanja, Moscow State Masha (Marie), Spanish name- HS Carmen, UW Maria. I've also had students call me Mrs. Ligocki and teacher (no need to learn our names, right?)

My name is Rosemary and my family and close friends call me Ro, which I like. I sign myself Ro in text messages and emails. Some friends started calling me Rosie (or Rosey) which I didn't like but it stuck and I don't mind it so much now.Occasionally people call me Rose which I don't mind. I always just introduce myself as Rosemary. I find it funny how some people just take it upon themselves to give me a nickname. I don't mind though, because I take it as a sign of friendship.

My name's Veronica, but most people call me Nikki. My sister and my mom constantly fight over who gave me that nickname-my mom insists she knew someone in college who was also a Veronica going by Nikki and my sister insists that she nicknamed me after Nikki Six(x?), during her head-banger phase. I'm not sure who to believe, really. One of my friends used to call me Vero and a guy at work wanted to call me Nico all the time. My dad still calls me Nick. I was called Nikapoo before, too. The only nickname I cannot stand is Ronnie.

Rachael=Rach, RachieYes, I like my NN. More people call me Rach than Rachie; Rachie is what my stepfather calls me to be a smartass. I like them, even though they aren't particularly interesting.

My name is Amy, sort of a perpetual nickname in itself. Amelia nn Amy might have been nice. Pretty much the main nickname I get is "Ames," which is very affectionate. I never tell people to use it or anything or say anything about it, but I sort of like it. People have to decide on their own to use it, and I think it's sweet that people felt I was deserving of an affectionate nickname. I was surprised when a co-worker started calling me Ames off the bat. That's a bit odd to me. Usually it's a nickname that developes over times. My best guy friend calls me Ames a lot too. He goes by Matt, but ironically, as a "nickname" I call him Matthew. His mom seems to gets a kick out of it. If he was a Matti, I would call him Matti, but he's not. The little boy in him is a Matthew lol. Matt would call our friend John, Jonathan. Even though his full name isn't Jonathan lol. Anybody else have friends you do this with? Use full names as a "nickname."Some people call me Jazz from the beginning sound of my last name, which I really like, but few people manage to come up with it. Maybe I'll prod some people towards that nickname...Anyway, I love nicknames! I wish my parents named me something with more nickname options. How many nicknames can you get out of Amy Lynn? My brother hit the jackpot. He's Robert. He could go by a million and one names.

Oh I forgot! LUZ -- I use it a lot in Spanish-speaking situations. Some people only know me by this name.

My name's Morgan and that's what I mostly go by. The boyfriend calls me either Moggy or Moggle and a few close friends call me Mog. I actually quite like the few nicknames I have, they're kinda cute!

Haha I have a friend named Morgan who I call Moggles. I thought I was the only one odd enough to come up with that, glad to know I'm not!

My name is Rachel. I don't have any nicknames I answer to. People try to call me Rach, but I don't like it, and try not to answer to it. My name is only 2 syllables, not hard!

Now I'm gonna answer on my own question. My name is Ena, pronounced like Anna, and a lot of people think it's very uncreative. But I have a lot of nicknames: Eni (pronounced like Annie), Enci (lot of people spell it Enchy), Enili (Annie+Lee), Enica (ANNIE-tsah) and Encica (ANNE-chee-tsah). Eni and Enchy are my favorite.

I wasn't going to post, because I've never had a nickname. The name on my birth certificate is Janice and that's what everyone calls me. Nobody even calls me Jan. But then I remembered that years ago, my sister's first husband, a man that I now haven't seen in almost thirty years, used to call me Jano. I hated it. Not Jan, which I still don't even like, but JanO.

Really? I think that's cute. I like girls nicknames that end in -o. It just goes to show that you never really know how a nickname is going to go over, so use them at your own risk lol.

My name is Nicole and these days most people call me that.
But nicknames I've had: Nicki, Nicool, Nick, Nille, Ninor..
I doesn't mind any of them, but Nicool is my least favorite. It was one of my teachers who started with it. =P
And only my best friend can call me Nille. If someone else would try...well, just don't. =P

My friend Nicole goes by Cole a lot. I thought it was cute and different.

I get Nell, which I don't mind, (Nelle-Nelle as a child, hated that), Chan (hate it), and I tried to get people to call me Elle, but it didn't stick unfortuntely.Other than those I get Nellie, Channellie-belly, and Channelo-Jello. Hate all those obviously.

For the most part I'm Joan with the nickname Joanie. Most people call me Joanie but my best friend is set on calling me Joan. I also get called Toni sometimes and of course Joan-Ay. Other websites list Jonae / Jonay as names, so I guess it's not that weird.

Yeah my good friend Rosemary prefers being called Rosie, but I've called her Rose since like second grade. And I hope she doesn't take offense to it because I know she loves Rosie. But it feels more natural for me to call her Rose, and I love Rose, I want to name my daughter that. Do you get ticked that your best friend doesn't use your prefered nickname?
vote up1
Nah, I actually see it as a compliment. It's not that she hates the name Joanie, it's that she loves Joan so much she would rather call me that. In fact, the friend I'm referring to is the one who named her daughter Joan.

My name is Daniela. I used to go by Dani, then by Danny for like 14 years, before I got too annoyed by the people who are apparently physically unable to pronounce it correctly. After that I started going by Ela. Now, most people are just confused and don't understand how I can get Ela from Daniela. Jeez. Occasionally I get called Lela, Jela or Jelchen.

My name is Caroline and when I was little my mum and sister called me Lina. Now only my mum and twelve year old cousin call me that. I'm ok with them calling me Lina but it feels very wrong if someone else would do it.
I was called Caro in school once or twice as well but I've never used that nickname (and I don't like it) so when I didn't repond to it (I didn't even realise they meant me when they said Caro) they stopped.

We call my sister Caroline "Lina" too.
