There seems to be a Carlita or Carlito in every Spanish soap my grandmother watches and it's always a totally stupid character (aren't they all, lol).

I don't know of any Carlitas, but I see a Carlito on TV once in a while. (not Carlito's Way, it's a WWE performer)

It's ok.My friend Carlos occasionally is called Carlito but, in that sense, it reminds me of Carlito's Way.

Certainly not an unheard-of name; it's the Spanish diminutive/pet form of Carla - not unlike Juanita to Juana or Sarita (a childhood nickname of mine, despite not being Hispanic) to Sarah.

exactlyThat's basically what I was going to point out. I don't know any Carlitas but I know a boy named Carlos, that we sometimes call Carlito. He loves that. -ita/-ito is a Spanish diminutive, indicating "little". My aunt's name is Marita because her mother's name is Mary.I really like Carlita though. I adore Lolita, but people consider it unusable because of the book, which I don't understand, because it's simply a regularly used Spanish diminutive of Lola.
