Max is cute!
I *love* Charles and Charlie (my dad's name and nn). Charles is more elegant, but Charlie is so cute. I can't chose, but maybe Charles nn Charlie? :)

I definitely prefer Charles with Charlie as a nn. I guess I'm 'traditional' like that. :b
Max is one of those names I see as 'ok' as a name on its own, but I slightly prefer Maxwell or Maximilian (love this one) with Max as a nn. Max and Charlie (or Maximilian and Charles) sound great as brothers imo.

Charles, hands down.
Charlie is a nickname, and has no formal name quality to it in the least. It's immature sounding and wouldn't age well. Plus, confusion could occur.
I don't care for the name Max, again, because it's a nickname, but I don't care for any Max- related names, either.
And, I think all names work in a sibling set, as long as they don't form a theme.

I agree to all of that!
Charlie and Max sound like terriers to me.
I have to admit that I have a certain fondness for Charlie (thanks to my late-90s sitcom of choice), but I'd never use it. I can't stand Charles at all.
However, I think that Charles, nn Charlie (or Charley--just remembered I like Charley, like in Flowers for Algernon) would hold up better than just plain Charlie.
Max isn't my favourite, though I do like Maximilian and Maxwell a bit.

Get into the car
We'll be the passenger
We'll ride through the city tonight
See the city's ripped insides
We'll see the bright and hollow sky
We'll see the stars that shine so bright
The sky was made for us tonight
