I've been loving Polly lately too! It is so sweet. I wouldn't mind it alone at all but would also love it as a nickname for Paula or Pauline (or Paulina).

I met a 5-year-old Polly not too long ago. It's a cute name :)

I love Polly. If it didn't clash so badly with my surname I'd probably change my name to Polly.

It's my sister's name - she was actually born Paula. So obviously I think it's a great name, and it works fine as a nickname for Pauline or Paulina - all three names are nice.

The Polly parrot thing is a bit of a turnoff. I love the name Pauline, and I suppose in many accents Paulie and Polly would basically be homophones, so I guess that works pretty well.

I personally think it would be a good nickname for Penelope if one didn't want to go the 'Penny' route.

As strict and uptight as I am about formal names is as lax as I am about nns. Pauline / Paulina, nn Polly, makes perfect sense to me.

Nns are the place to let your imagination or affection run wild. The niceties of historic correctness (Mary --> Molly --> Polly) just doesn't seem that important when it comes to nns. At least that's my take.

And it seems to me there's a Greek male name like Polydorus / Polydoros (sp?) so there may be a feminine variant of that you could use. Polydora? Does anyone know for sure? Anyway, are there any here that strike your fancy? Thanks.
