I like Marian a lot. But I prefer the Marion spelling, and not just because that's the one SJP used.

A few months ago here on BtN I learned that Marion is the medieval French feminine spelling. That was enough to sell me. And then I saw Marion Cotillard in "La Vie en Rose" and I knew my faith had been rewarded. (tongue in cheek)

I really am beginning to get into "o" spelling variants like Marion, Isobel, and Marjorie. It's an acquired taste. But once it grips me it holds me all the harder for it. The Marian spelling is beginning to look more like an adjective for Mary than a name. I think Marian nuns or monks exist somewhere and that's what's going through the back of my mind.

But yes, to answer your original question, Marian is a great name. I'm glad to see it back in the limelight where it belongs. And not that you asked, but I like the sound of Marian (Marion) and Tabitha together too.

I agree that Marian is more feminine than Marion. I like Marian. I'm not sure if the Robin Hood association is good or bad (to me it's good, but someone named Marian might not think so if they get comments about it too much)

I think if it's spelled Marian it looks more feminine. Marion is masculine to me. It's a nice name.

Her name's Marion -- I love both Marian and Marion.
