Charmian?
Not Charmaine, but Charmian, as in Shakespeare's "Anthony and Cleopatra".
Do you think it's usable?
Have you ever known a Charmian? (I haven't).
Would be misprounced Charmaine?
Do you like its original pronunciation, karmian?

I immediately read Charmaine and thought of toilet paper...I don't care for the original pronounciation.

much as i like Antony and Cleopatra, i don't think Charmian works terribly well.

Not useable.
Never known one.
Would get mispronounced and misspelled constantly.
Correctly, it would be pronounced Kar-mee-an.Does not meet the requirement of a name that doesn't get the crap beat out of your kid at school.

I actually like the KAHR-mee-an pronunciation much better than the SHAHR-mee-an one. I think it's lovely and much better than Charmaine (which has always seemed rather trashy to me). I've never known a Charmian and I do think people would often think it's actually suppsosed to be Charmain(e)Unfortunately, it also reminds me of toilet paper ("Charmin").

I love Charmian (only pronounced "KAR-mee-un"). I think it's usable.
