Kestrel
What'cha think? I used to like this and now I've seen it again and have totally fallen in love. So, thoughts on Kestrel? Could you see it being used on a real girl? And, as always, if you have any mn suggestions I'd love to hear them. :)

Love this name with the nn Kess. It's a word name (well a bird name if you want to get technical about it) but yet it's not trendy and overused like some names of a similar sort. I can imagine this on a real girl, and I always picture someone with bright blue eyes and unruly auburn hair. Someone who is independent and feisty.
Good name!
Good name!
I like it as a GP. I can definitely see it being used.
It sounded masculine to me at first, but I think it could work very well on the right type of girl. It sounds very strong and interesting.
I don't have any mn suggestions, but I think Kestrel would make a great mn for lots of fns.

I kind of like it
I am not a huge fan, it makes me think of petrol for some reason (maybe kestrel-petrel-petrol?). But I don't mind it as a name. There's a series of books with the main character called Kestrel (her brother is called Bowman). The first one's called 'The Wind Singer' but I can't remember the rest. They're by William Nicholson if you're interested.
When I first saw Kestrel I assumed it was a boy's name. It sounds so masculine to me.
Once I found out it was traditionally a girl's name I put it in the back of the cupboard. I used it as a mn the other day and started to really like it. It has an English country / outdoorsy feeling to me. Its stock is rising quickly for me.
