Walter?
Do you think Walter is a classic or is it dated?
I really like it!

Classic gorgeous
I think it leans more to classic. I love Walter.
Dated, but I know a Walter who is in high school.
Traditional/classic and hopefully doesn't come back
*fingers crossed* It's not so much the name as the old nickname, Wally which is the equivalent of "dimwit/fool" in some places, although usually more in a joking manner. It's not outrageously pejorative.
I should be able to see beyond the nicknames which aren't always a given, but in this instance, I can't.

I've actually been thinking about Walter lately too, and have decided that I like it. It's not on my PNL yet, but maybe soon.
To answer your question, I think it's a little of both, really. It is definitely a classic. But it's also a bit dated because it's been slowly declining in popularity since the 1920's, and hasn't been in the Top 100 since 1972. I have never met a young person named Walter, but somehow I can still picture a little boy named Walter.
The more I'm talking about it, the more I'm liking it. Awwww, Walter. Maybe I'll go add it to my PNL now. :)

Like Bear said, it's a dated classic. I really come to love it lately. I think "Walt" is so handsome. My mom recently met a little boy named Walter, and she said it was adorable to hear that name on a little tyke. One of my best friend's long-term boyfriend (and future husband) is Walter III, and I'm rooting for them to have a little Walter IV.
It's both. I agree with I Love Jesus. It's a dated classic. My daughter knows a woman who named her now one-year-old son Walter. I just can't imagine a one year old Walter. To me, it will always be an old man name.
Walter doesn't quite feel like a classic. It is dated, but I still like it.
Walter is a dated classic. But I think it's time for a comeback.
I was just looking for summer reading for a niece of mine and rediscovered Sir Walter Scott books. So I'm in a romantic, swashbuckling Walter mood at the moment.
To me, Josephine was dated until parents rediscovered her charm. All it takes are a few brave parents and "wham!" -- the name has been reborn.

Agreed
Its a dated classic imo
I adore Walter! I'd keel over if I met a little Walter!
