Candida
I really like the sound of this name. I don't know how many of you would remember it was the title of an old Tony Orlando and Dawn song. On the other hand, it is also the name of a fungus.
Do you like Candida? Do you think the fungus association makes it unusable, or would most people not be aware of it?

Well, coming from someone who didn't associate it was a yeasty thing, I don't really care for it.
It sounds like some sort of Romance language word (in past tense), and it's slightly awkward. It's the -dida part. It just sticks on my tongue.
I think if this many people associate it with the yeast deal, it would be rather difficult to pull off.

Yeasty genital/oral infections. That's it for me
You'd be surprised by how many people would make the connection. More often that not, at least with those I've talked names with.
I think it's a lovely name, associations aside, but something I'd be INCREDIBLY embarrassed to bear. I'd either go by Candy (which I hate) exclusively or change my name as soon as possible. I saw it on a women my age once and was giggling inside my own head. I could not help myself.

Same.
This name is unusable, IMO. Keep it for fiction.

This was my great aunt's name, she went by "Connie". I've always thought of it as an interesting name and because of her... I don't automatically think of those associations. But, most people might.

I think Candidae is the scientific name for yeast infection, or some sort of fungus. BA.
the first thing i think of is fungus, so no... i don't like it at all! sorry :/
I think it sounds nice. But it makes me think of Canada. Also, I don't think the fungus association is a nice one. But I don't know how many people really know of it as a fungus though.
I think it's very pretty, but I'd be scared people would call her Candy.
I really like it. I didn't even know there was a fungus with the name until you mentioned it. It honestly only reminds me of candy.
I just don't like the sound of it.
I hate this name; it reminds me of yeast infections. I just get a gross feeling whenever I hear it.
totally unusable (IMO) I think of yeast infections
Absolutely agree -

Yes, Candida albicans is all it is for me
I find it hard to move past that.

My sister's name is Candis, and people at work jokingly call her Candida and Fungus as a play off of her name. :b But she does work at a hospital. LOL.

It makes me think of yeast infections too.
I'd definitely avoid using this as a name.

What? How? [edit]
Never mind, I just googled it. I'd never heard of it before.

Ditto.
Totally agree
It does have a nice ring to it. And if I didn't know it was a fungus, it's probably not general knowledge. It makes me think of the book, Candide, and the song Overture to Candide. The song is going off in my head right now. :)
