When I pronounce them they are two very distinct names that don't sound like each other.
Amelia - ah-meh-LEE-ah
Emilia - EH-mee-lee-ah
I much prefer Emilia, it's a name I can see myself using. I don't like Amelia at all.

I pronounce Amelia uh-MEEL-ya and Emilia as eh-MEE-lee-uh. I prefer Emilia, not because of the pronunciation, but because I think of the birth defect when I hear Amelia.

I prefer Amelia. I don't know why. I'm partial to names that begin with 'A'. :)

A girl at my church (age 10/11) is named Emelia (EE-MEE-lia). Everyone calls her Eme (EE-MEE) so I am partial to that instead of the two you have listed.

I'm Danish and there's a difference in pronunciation of Amelia and Emilia, from how I do it in Danish and how I do it in English, for both names.
Amelia
In Danish: ah-ME-lee-ah
In English: a-MEE-lee-yah
Emilia
In Danish: e-ME-lee-ah
In English: e-MEE-lee-yah
I prefer Amelia, because it has been my second fave girls name for about 16 years now.

I love both and have a hard time choosing between the two. I seem to prefer Emilia right now as I slightly prefer the sound of it.

Tbh honest they sound alike in my accent(Irish). I like them both and I change my mind as to which I prefer. It's Amelia at the moment. I was also thinking of Amalia today and how much I like that.
