Louise
If I ever have a daughter I am going to name her Louise Mae, I like Louise because it is the name of my grandmother who I was very close to and it isn't overused. So what are your opinions? Is Louise a good name for a child?

I like it as a first name, yes.

Only one letter is different, but I like Louisa as much as I dislike Louise. The combo has a nice flow, however.

Wow, after all the Louisa comments, I'd say definitely go with your original LouiseAt least you know she'd likely be distinct. I tend to trend against the grain (ESPECIALLY with this lot).

I don't like it. I think it is awkward and unappealing...but hey, this isn't going to be MY kid.

Although I prefer Louisa, I like Louise. I think it's very classy and mature sounding. I don't care for Louise Mae. The flow is choppy and it's all together too similar to Louisa May, as in Louisa May Alcott.

Good point, maybe I should also give her a second middle name as well to avoid it being TO similar

Louisa Mae would have a better sounding flow imo

I think it's a fine name for a child, though it's not my style. Like Chanel, I prefer Louisa (and I think Louisa Mae flows a tad better than Louise Mae).It would certainly be a unique choice for a first name since it's usually stuck in the mn slot - I only know one person with the name Louise (we call her Lou). She would probably be the only Louise in her class!

I love Louise as a first name!

I dislike it intensely. The WEEZ sound is very unattractive. It became popular in Britain about thirty years ago, a popularity that was never matched in the U.S. I can only surmise that this is because the British, perhaps, don't pronounce it with the same WEEZ sound that Americans do? But this is only a guess. If they do, then its popularity there mystifies me. I ask you to reconsider this. I'm sure glad that my name is not Louise.

Sorry, but I think Louise is much better than the bad overused names that we find all the time, and it was my grandmothers name and she and I were very close.

Louise is perfectly fine and quite lovely for a child. I personally prefer Louisa, as it reminds me of the writer of "Little Women". And Louisa seems a tad more refined, but I would love to meet a little girl named Louise! I adore Lulu/Lola/Lula as nicknames!

It's my sister's middle nameMy seven year old sister-- it's her middle name-- Caroline Louise. It's after our Grandmother, who is in turn named after her great aunt.I really like it. I'm not too fond of the combo Louise Mae, I think I'd like it Mae Louise better. But it is a very pretty name.

I like it a lot as a first name. I think Louisa Mae would flow better, but Louise Mae is cute. Especially since it's your grandmother's name.

It's nice, but a bit dull. I prefer Louisa or Luisa myself, which I'm considering using for honouring purposes too, but probably as a mn, because I'm not sure I like it enough as a fn.
Mae feels fillerish, I'd pair Louise with a quirkier mn.

I've never been a fan of Louise but I love Louisa. As a combo I don't think Louise Mae has a good flow but it's nice enough. I would say that Louise is a good name for a child, though Louisa is better ;)

I love Louise. It's lovely and timeless.Mae, however, nearly ruins it for me. It's filler, passe and tawdry. I think you should opt for the classier Louise Mary.

Mary is my sisters middle name so I don't really want to use it.

I like Louise but only as a middle name. I prefer Eloise more.

Louise is sweet and it was chosen by Prince Edward for his daughter a few years ago even though most of its recent use has been as a mn.
I like Louisa better as a first name, though.

Louise is nice, but I find that when I say it, it sounds limp. I prefer Louisa.

I think Louise is fresh as a first name, I think Louisa is nicer than Louise.

I like Luisa too.
