Tristan
What do you think of the name Tristan for a girl?
Or do you like it better spelled Tristyn?
Thx

Tristan is the man; Isolde's the girl.
I'm sorry, I am personally pretty stuck on it being a boy's name, and spelling it differently really does more harm than good.
You *could* add a -leigh to the end and make it more feminine. ;-D Just kidding. Please don't. All these tryndee themed games on the other board are getting to me, I think. :-P

I only like it for boys, so naturally I think it is quite horrible for a girl.
Ugh! for both boys and girls. I prefer it on a boy though. It seems like there was an outbreak of little Tristans in the late 90's. I'm not sure why. I always see the "triste" part and shy away.
There *was* an outbreak!!! It's awful. I know scads of little Tristans. And I liked the name before it got so darn popular. :(

Actually I do like Tristan for both sexes. The name isn't used at all for boys where I live, so I suppose that helps.
I can't stand the spelling Tristyn, it's so trendy.

Well, to be honest, I can't picture Tristan on a girl. Tristan is the hero of a love story almost as well-known as that of Romeo and Juliet, so it is a 100% male name to me. Actually, it's one of my favourite boys' names.
I never understood why would a misspelled variation of a masculine name be more feminine, so Tristyn gets a big no from me, sorry. Trista, on the other hand, is nice.
Read, read, read, read! Let me tell you something - last time I read a book, I was raped. Let THAT be a lesson to you.

Tristan sounds girly to me, but I think of it as a boys' name since there are many more boys named Tristans than girls (at least that I'm aware of). I don't care for it because it seems wimpy to me.

Well, Tristan might seem cute or tomboyish on a girl, but on a woman, I think it would simply seem butch. Most people are used to the convention that Tristan's a man's name.. it's still not really unisex.
The spelling Tristyn appeals to my taste even less. However, at least it notifies people before they make the embarrassing mistake of naturally assuming a female Tristan is male. I'd be in favor of spelling it this way if the bearer is female, to save her the distraction of errors, and to indicate dignity in her sex.
I think Trista is the nicest form of Tristan for a female bearer.
Not related, but somehow still interestingly, I also prefer Krista over Kristen.

Hmm...I almost do like Tristan for a girl but I'm not sure, it does sound rather manly.
Eh. I don't like Tristan at all; everything about it seems very trendy and tacky. If it must be used, though, it sounds (and is) masculine.
Especially in english! I've always thought that the english pronounciation of the name made it so feminine! (kinda sounds like Kristen!)
so definatley agreed. Very Kristen.
:)
:)
I like it for both. I never seen it spelt Tristyn before, it looks nice. I also like Trysta or Trista for a girl. :)
