Tamar
What do you think of Tamar for a girl?
Noah Tamar? or Noah Sofia?
1. Does it sound incomplete to you (like it's missing the A?)
2. How do you pronounce it? I say tah-MAHR. Do you know what the original pronunciation is?
3. What does it make you think of? I once heard that there was a public holiday that used the leaves of the date palms and girls born on that day were often named Tamar, do you know anything about that?
4. Do you know anyone with the name? Do you happen to know if it is common in Israel?
THANKS

I love Tamar!
What do you think of Tamar for a girl?
Gorgeous and strong and feminine and ♥.
Noah Tamar? or Noah Sofia?
I think Noah Tamar sounds nicer than Noah Sofia, but I do prefer it as Noa (not that that matters, as that's my personal preference and not yours.)

Not at all. I pronounce Tamara differently, anyway, so they're not even related in my mind.
2. How do you pronounce it? I say tah-MAHR. Do you know what the original pronunciation is?
I pronounce it the same as you.
3. What does it make you think of?
This wonderful (and very pretty!) photographer Tamar Levine.

4. Do you know anyone with the name? Do you happen to know if it is common in Israel?
I don't. I'd love to meet one though!

I pronounce it the same way you do, but I see BtN says we're wrong.
3. What does it make you think of? I once heard that there was a public holiday that used the leaves of the date palms and girls born on that day were often named Tamar, do you know anything about that?
Tamar is slightly exotic, earthy, but still sweet. I picture a dark-eyed girl with a generous spirit. As for the holiday, I know it's Sukkot, but I don't know much about it.
4. Do you know anyone with the name? Do you happen to know if it is common in Israel?
No to both.
eta: Noah Tamar, but only if Tamar is pronounced the way we like it. Otherwise, Noah Sofia.

I actually think that behindthename got it wrong...I'm pretty sure it's Tah-MAHR and when you look at the comments for it you see that many others think so as well...
1. I don't particulary care for it. It doesn't sound incomplete to me, thoug I pronounce it differently.
2. TAY-mahr. I've heard TAH-mahr, too.
3. Nothing inparticular.
4. No, and I don't know if it is popular in Israel.
