I adore Miranda. Like you, I prefer the full name, but I would use Miri or Mira as a nn. Mandy is too closely tied to Amanda in my mind, though I do see how easily it can be taken from Miranda.

I like it, it's charming, has a nice meaning and I love the Shakespeare association. I used to know a Miranda who went by Mandy, other possible nns are Mimi and Miri.

I absolutely love Miranda. Mandy is a cute enough nickname, though a lot of people would assume a Mandy is an Amanda. One problem I do have with Miranda, though I love it, is the possible nickname Randy, which I loathe. I'd try to have a Miranda called Miranda, but I'd always worry about it being shortened to Randy. In the book "Dragonwyck", the heroine of which is named Miranda, she is sometimes called Ranny. Which is a little better than Randy, but not much.
