Cassandra?
I was wondering on the opinions of the girls' name Cassandra? It's one of the very few names my SO and I both like and could agree on for a girl.Other than the fact that the greek mythological Cassandra had a rather depressing tale, can you think of any other drawbacks? And is the mythology too much stigma for the name you think? I absolutely love the way Cassandra looks written out in full and I love the sound of it but I worry a Cassandra is inevitable to become a Cassie. The only Cassandra I've ever known was a Cassie and it does have that something like Madeline that makes it seemed doomed to be shortened. Not that I have anything against the nn Cassie, it's cute and if it's what she wanted to be called then that's fine. And lastly what about the combo Cassandra Mary? We are only interested in using family names for middle names, the other top contenders are Marie, Jayne and Mona.

I love Cassandra. I don't think it has any drawbacks and the mythology stigma isn't well-known. I think Cassie can be avoided. Cassandra Mary is lovely.

Both of the Cassandras Ive known have went by their full name.

I love Cassandra, the mythology is actually a big plus for me. Greek mythology is all tragedies, so you can't expect anything different!
I don't think it necessarily would be shortened to Cassie.Cassandra Mary is nice. I like Cassandra Jane (but not Jayne - bleugh!).

I'm not sure about drawbacks, but the mythology definitely isn't too much of a stigma, I know two Cassandras and it's never been a problem for either. One of the Cassandras I know goes by Cassie, but the other goes by her full name.Cassandra Mary is really nice, I like it best out of your options.

I love Cassandra! How are you pronouncing it? I prefer the cah SAHN dra pronunciation, but the other is nice too. I don't think the mythological tale makes this name any less attractive really. I would not use a nn for Cassandra and it is not inevitable. You and your daughter will decide what she goes by. People get the hint quickly when you don't answer to a nn. Oh and Cassandra Mary is pretty. If you and your husband agree, I say it's a winner.

I like Cassandra, and Cassandra Mary is a great combo. I don't think Cassandra's mythological background is a huge drawback the way Oedipus or Arachne would be. There are enough Cassandras out there that the name isn't completely shackled to the myth anymore. You're right that Cassandra is a name many people might try to shorten without asking, just like Madeline, Alexandra, or Jennifer, but most people will use the name in full without complaint if you tell them to. As long as you're okay with the idea that Cassandra herself might choose Cassie in the future, I wouldn't worry too much about the nn issue. If you decide you want a nn after all, one alternative is Andra. I think it's more interesting than Cassie and retains more of Cassandra's flavor.

I love Cassandra, as long as it's prn ka-SAHN-dra (as opposed to ka-SAND-ra). I have the same reaction as you with regards to nicknames, only I really dislike Cassie. If I used Cassandra I'd go for Cassa or Cate as nns.
I think Cassandra Mary is the best of the possible combos that you've listed.

I love the name Cassandra! I used to prefer Cassie but now the full name is growing on me. I can't think of any drawbacks to the name. Cassandra Mary and Cassandra Jayne are the best out of your list.

I personally adore the name. Also, the only Cassandra I've ever met went by Andi, so it might not be "doomed" to Cassie.I love the sound of Cassandra Jayne. A two-syllable MN might be a little much.

Cassandra could always go by Sandy too. I'm a Cassie but not a Cassandra I wish that was my name though.

Cassandra is my cousin's name (Cassandra Lee, Lee being a family name). She's fourteen, and goes by Cassie mostly, but her mother always calls her Cassandra, sometimes Cass, and my cousin introduces herself as either Cassandra or Cassie, depending on her mood. Interestingly, Georgia was one of her almost names, but Cassandra was chosen as its less common (and my uncle wasn't too keen on Georgia anyway) but now my cousin has a best friend named Cassandra. Still, she knows about three or so Georgias, so the theory came true. She goes by Kassie over msn and such (oh, teenagers...)Oh and she loves the Greek myth. So I think it's a positive.Out of your combos, I like Cassandra Mary best.

Cassandra is on my PNL! i really like it. I think Cassandra Mary sounds the best out of the choices you gave but they're all fine with it. my next choice would be Cassandra Mona (i prnc this moo-nah; rhymes w/ Luna), then the other 2 mn's are tied as my least favorites with it.

I've never liked the name Cassandra, but I think there are already so many Cassandra's out there that the mythological association doesn't even matter. I've known quite a few Cassandra's in my lifetime and a few went by Cassie, but the others made it clear that they wanted to be called Cassandra so that is what people called them. As for middle names, I think Mary is definitely the best choice. :)
