Rosemary

I have fallen madly in love with Rosemary- if I ever am lucky enough to have another DD, I am completely sure that her name will be Rosemary. I love that the name honours my mother (Maureen) and also my grandmother and her sisters who all shared the middle name Rose-I have a few questions though and would love your thoughts.1. I want to use the middle name Anne- do you think the name Rosemary Anne sounds like Rose Marianne?
2. How do you think Rosemary works with sibs Scarlett and Malcolm?
3. How would you describe Rosemary as a name?
4. Our kids are both very fair- Scarlett is a red-head and Malcolm is blonde- both blue eyed- do you think Rosemary would fit this description?
5. I love the nn Posy- do you think it works for Rosemary? Do you think a nn has to sound great with a last name- My last name sounds like Jovi so Posy Jovi sounds pretty bad but I'm not sure if it matters as the nn is just that- thoughts? Thanks!!!

1. Yes, unfortunately, it does.
2. Sure.
3. Quirky, classic, uncommon.
4. I suppose, however, that sort of thing doesn't matter to me.
5. Honestly, I don't care for Posy. It seems a little lightweight to me and probably isn't ideal with the surname. Yes, I think the nick should sound nice paired with the surname. After all, she'd go by her nn more often. My fave nn for Rosemary is Romy. I adore that but I'm not sure it would be any nicer with your surname.

- Yes I do actually. I think Rosemary Annabelle or Rosemary Arianne or something like that sounds better.2. How do you think Rosemary works with sibs Scarlett and Malcolm?
- Sounds great, fits in very nicely.3. How would you describe Rosemary as a name?
- It's old fashioned, but sweet and ripe for revival.4. Our kids are both very fair- Scarlett is a red-head and Malcolm is blonde- both blue eyed- do you think Rosemary would fit this description?
- Absolutely.5. I love the nn Posy- do you think it works for Rosemary? Do you think a nn has to sound great with a last name- My last name sounds like Jovi so Posy Jovi sounds pretty bad but I'm not sure if it matters as the nn is just that- thoughts?
- I don't like Posy as a nn for Rosemary, it doesn't fit imo. I'd prefer Rosie or Mary as a nn. The nn is just a nn, so I wouldn't worry about it.

They sound similar but it shouldn't be a problem.
2. How do you think Rosemary works with sibs Scarlett and Malcolm?
Perfect sibset, I love it.
3. How would you describe Rosemary as a name?
Romantic, earthy and strong.
4. Our kids are both very fair- Scarlett is a red-head and Malcolm is blonde- both blue eyed- do you think Rosemary would fit this description?
I picture a brunette when I hear the name, but it works equally well for a blonde or redhead.
5. I love the nn Posy- do you think it works for Rosemary? Do you think a nn has to sound great with a last name?
Posy is so sweet. I like Rosy, too. My daughter's name is almost a tongue-twister with our last name, but it works. No biggie.

1. I want to use the middle name Anne- do you think the name Rosemary Anne sounds like Rose Marianne?Actually is does. But you won't be saying her full name aloud all the time. Rosemary Annette would work a lot better for that purpose2. How do you think Rosemary works with sibs Scarlett and Malcolm?Works just fine with them. Good sibset3. How would you describe Rosemary as a name?Beautiful old fashioned name. Understated beauty4. Our kids are both very fair- Scarlett is a red-head and Malcolm is blonde- both blue eyed- do you think Rosemary would fit this description?Yes5. I like it, and it goes well with Scarlett. But I have to say that Scarlett sounds like a beautiful bombshell and Rosemary sounds like her plain sister.

It's funny how people perceive names differently- I love Scarlett's name for it's strength and confidence but I actually see Rosemary as 'the pretty' name- I invision Rosemary as being completely lovely with soft features and a more delicate beauty, if that makes sense.
In any case, I appreciate your sediments- it's so interesting hearing other people's thoughts on names.
Cheers!

I love Rosemary too! She's in my top 10. 1. I want to use the middle name Anne- do you think the name Rosemary Anne sounds like Rose Marianne? It does sound like Rose Marianne. How bout a longer -anne name? Rosemary Annabelle? Rosemary Anneliese? 2. How do you think Rosemary works with sibs Scarlett and Malcolm?I think Scarlett, Malcolm(in my top 10 too!!) and Rosemary will make an awesome sibset!!

3. How would you describe Rosemary as a name?Classic, girly, sweet, spunky, classy, old fashion.4. Our kids are both very fair- Scarlett is a red-head and Malcolm is blonde- both blue eyed- do you think Rosemary would fit this description?Yes I think Rosemary would fit beautifully!5. I love the nn Posy- do you think it works for Rosemary? Do you think a nn has to sound great with a last name- My last name sounds like Jovi so Posy Jovi sounds pretty bad but I'm not sure if it matters as the nn is just that- thoughts?Posy is an adorable NN!! Never thought of it. It's lovely. I don't think the NN has to flow with the LN. It's just a NN. She'll introduce herself as Rosemary Jovi but say you can call me Posy. I love it!!

Thanks for your thoughts- I will have to think about the Anne issue:)
I am loving Posy as well- I googled Rosemary/ Posy and there were actually quite a few people that came up as using the nickname for Rosemary- it pretty much sealed my love for Rosemary- I like Rosy as well but something about Posy just totally gets me.
Anyhoo...thanks again for your response- very appreciated:)

1. I wouldn't worry about it. They sound different (ROSE-mary ANNE & ROSE MARY-anne). Go for it (:
2. Works great!
3. At first I thought it would be an old grandmother, but I've grown to see her as dainty, smart, and well-educated (like Cecily).
4. To a tee. Of course, whatever your baby looks like, I'm sure that's how you'll imagine Rosemary forever more.
5. Love Posy. Please do use it. It's so cute! (And if you're worried about the rhyming, why not do a mixed last name of your's/your maiden name & the fathers? ex.: Smith-Jones, Derring-Seals, Brooker-Colling, etc.):) http://babynames.com/namelist/9697577

Thanks for your response:) I also love Cecily and considered it when pregnant with DD- it is pretty much the only other name on our list that I can see her as (other than Scarlett that is)-
I love Posy too:) Totally smitten actually- now I just have to convince DH that baby #3 is a super idea- tehee!!

Love Rosemary, used to be my number one fav, now it's in my top three. I adore it. It's so beautiful. I think it sounds AMAZING with Scarlett and Malcolm, especially Malcolm (which I LOVE). Rosemary Anne doesn't have the best flow, but it's not that big of a deal. I do love Rosemary Annora though.Rosemary is a bit classic, and a bit hippy(in a good way). It reminds me of an old antique lace wedding gown. Exquisite. Any Rosemary I would have would be a blue-eyed blonde so this is how I see a little Rosemary.I prefer Rosy as a nickname, but Posy isn't horrible. I prefer Posy as a nickname for Josephine. I myself want to use Rosemary Josephine, nn Rosy-Posy. How about Rosemary Josephine Anne, nn Rosy-Posy? I don't think nicknames have to flow with last names.

Thanks for your response and I love how you desribed Rosemary as an antique lace wedding gown- I didn't think it was possible but you made me love the name even more:)
I love the flow of Rosemary Josephine Anne but my other kids only have one middle name (both family names) so I think it would be weird for this little bean to have two.
Rosemary Annora is very pretty- will have to consider that one- also like Rosemary Anna, Rosemary Anouk and Rosemary Antonia.
I think Posy came from methe idea of Rosy- Posy in my head- it is just such a sweet thought:)Thanks again for your thoughts- very helpful!!!
