Alice
I really love Alice, but I don't know about using it for a first name. I like Alice better as a nickname, but a nickname for what? Any Ideas?

Alice works fine on its own. I think the Twillight series by Stephenie Meyer will make it popular again.

Alice as a nn? Well, OK. I enjoy a challenge. How about:Alicia / Alyssa / Alison
Alessandra
Ailsa ("AYL-suh")
Callista
Aisling ("ASH-ling")
Ulyssa
Placida ("PLA-si-duh")
Aloisia ("ah-loh-EE-see-uh")
Pallas Athena
AlphonsineIt seems as thought the "al-iss" sound happens at the end of a name, but I can't put my finger on it. The only thing that came to mind is a chrysalis (insect pupa), but please don't use that. It's driving me batty. Amaryllis?Alice originally comes from Adelheidis / Adelheid. So you could try one of those.

I think Alice is pretty, too, but it is short and simple kind of like a nickname.
Here are some ideas of names it could be a nickname for:
Alicia
Alessandra
Adelais or Adelaide (see the description of the name Alice in this website)
Alissa or Alyssa (I think this is a sweet name!)
Alison
