Tara
What do you think of Tara? 80s dated? Do you pronounce it TAH-ra or TEH-ra?

I don't mind it, I say tah-ra.

I love it, and don't think it's dated to the eighties at all, I've only ever heard of one Tara in my entire life. I pronounce it TEH-ra because I love Gone With The Wind and if I were to use it, then I would pretty much be referencing the book.

Tara is dated to me. However, it is still a nice name. I pronounce it TAH-ra.

Love it, my middle name, my mother's middle name, and her mother's middle name. I pronounce it TARE-uh, like Terra.

I don't have a pronunciation preference. Whatever the 'wearer' calls themselves. I go back and forth of how I 'think' it when I read the nameIt's an okay name. Nothing that really grabs my attention

My issue with this name is that I never know which pronunciation to use! Other than that it's got a lot going for it. It doesn't feel dated to me.

A strange thing comes over me when I pronounce Tara. I say it with a short "a" as if I'm from New York, which I'm not. Between the two you have listed, I'm closer to the "TEH-ruh" sound. It's not dated to me because I'm Irish. But I can see how others might be tired of it. But that means that there won't be many Taras in this newest generation, so your dd's name would be unique among her circle.

I like it a lot. I don't think it's 80s dated at all! When I hear it, I think of either Tara Lipinski (by all means a worthy namesake!) or Tara from "Gone With the Wind." I usually say TAA-rah, with the first syllable having the same vowel quality as "cat" or "had." TAW-rah makes me think of tar. Gross smell and unhealthy. =P
