Thoughts on Larkin?
This name has been growing on me lately for my soon to be born son, but my husband hates it (thinks it sounds girly). What do you all think? Is Larkin a good name for a boy? Any suggestions for a good middle name to go with it (something really masculine preferably)?

I have known one woman with this name. She was lovely, so my association with the name is good, but feminine. It could work on the right boy too I suppose. I think I prefer the spelling Larken on a girl and Larkin on a boy.
It's a surname to me and I dislike the sound of it. It's the name of a major street in the next town over from me.
I like it, esp. as a nn for Lawrence, but I definitely think it can work well on its own. No ideas for a mn at the moment, sorry.
I know of one little boy named Larkin (he's about 3-4 years old now; I took care of him in the hospital when he was born). Larkin was his mom's maiden name. I think his mn was Joseph.

I find it very special, unsual, but pretty nice.
But I see what your husband means. The Lark part DOES sound a bit feminine, and I think - spoiled as people are with thousands of male names used for girls - most people would at once think it is a boys name when they only hear or read it... I don't know if I should say "take it anyway!" or leave it at that and suggest you to choose another name... It's difficult.

I used to love it when I was a kid. Tell your husband he's insane because it sounds really masculine to me! :P
Larkin Alasdair
Larkin Charles
Larkin Desmond
Larkin Edward - I rather like the sound of that
Larkin Graham
Larkin Gregory
Larkin Henry
Larkin James
Larkin John
Larkin Michael
Larkin Nicholas
Larkin Patrick
Larkin Thomas
Larkin William
Those were the names on my PNL I think are the most masculine. Maybe your husband would find Lorcan more masculine? Just a thought.

i think its beautiful, the name of a character from one of my favorite books. of course, that character does happen to be female... i dont know. i can see it on a boy, but your husband does have a point about it being somewhat girly. it might work best as a mn.
