Star of "Rent" and "How Stella got her groove back", was born Scott Diggs. Hisfriends would call him Scotty, which was elaborated to Scottt-aaayyyyy. When he auditioned for "Rent", he decided to take the last syllable of his nickname and use it as a stage name.

I think of this more as a girl's name, but it would work as a boy's name too.
Consider Dante as full name?

I don't like it. I think it sounds...incomplete. Like a cute nickname, or something.

How about Chantay or Shantay, Quantay or Tayshaun?

Tay is cute as a nn. But as you say, it needs a more formal name. I haven't read the other posts, so I'm sorry if any of these are repeats:

* These names don't have a "tay" sound in them, more like a "ta" or "tah" sound. But they could still work as formal names for a nn Tay in my book.

You can find names that have they sound "Tay" rather than the spelling.
