I think it's one of those names that can either be gorgeous or totally trashy a lot of French names are that way. I dislike the sound personally, but I think it can work for some people. Too often it's used by lower-class people who fail to give their children a proper upbringing, though not for lack of trying and so the name ends up becoming trashy in people's minds to reflects those they remember it being bestowed upon.
