B/G Twins
Part IIIMy twins will be arriving soon, and I don't know what they'll be. I've been long settled on what I'll call them if they are identical girls [Isla Primrose | Iona Rose], and I've recently asked for help with middle names for identical boys [Ignatius Carlisle | Blaise Donovan is what I'm leaning toward].During all of this time- through all of the name games and such- I've had the most difficulty with B/G combinations. I haven't thought of a single one- or heard a suggestion- that I loved... HELP!I don't have any rules, except that they relate [even if by a stretch]. I'm of Scottish descent; the father is Spanish, if that means something to you. ;-) Don't bother with combos, because this is probably lofty enough. Here are some names that I like. I only see one name from each list that match , so you don't have to use them [like that/at all]:BOYS
Blaise
Conrad
Dashiell
Fabian
Felix
Florian
Hector
Iago | Diego
Ignatius
Joaquin
Oscar
Oliver
Ramon
Raphael
Tristan
Victor
Vincent
Xavier | JavierGIRLS
Antonia
Camilla
Claudia
Columba
Cordelia
Estella
Felicia
Isla
Olivia
Ophelia
Pascale
Priscilla
Regina
SabrinaAll classic names are fine. Obscure ones better. :-PI know this seems like a CAF or something, but my babies are real :-D

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but you have a lot of Shakespearean names here, and I think that's enough of a connection for there to be a subtle matchiness between any of them:Fabian, Hector, Iago, or Oliver (Conrad and Vincent could arguably be added to this list as well, for Conrade and Vincntio) / Cordelia, Olivia, or OpheliaI adore Hector and Cordelia, so that would be my favorite pairing here, but Fabian and Olivia would also be a good one to consider, given that both characters are from The Twelfth Night. Some other ideas:Victor & Regina: Maybe this is a bit of a stretch, but it seems to me that victory and queenliness are rather compatible themes. Also, both names seem to have Latin origins.
Dashiell & Antonia: I connect both of these names very strongly to literature; for me their strongest associations are in Dashiell Hammett and My Antonia by Willa Cather, respectively.
Ophelia & Raphael: Almost certainly a stretch, but they both have 'ph' in them, which isn't too common of a sight. There are a lot of names here with similar origins; I'm sure you could find several complimentary pairs that way, too. All of your names are lovely (as well as your B/B and G/G pairings), so I'm sure you'll come up with something wonderful. Good luck! :)

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but you have a lot of Shakespearean names here, and I think that's enough of a connection for there to be a subtle matchiness between any of them.I hadn't noticed. I was just listing away, and never stopped to consider pairings for myself. I'm getting lazy!I adore Hector and Cordelia, so that would be my favorite pairing here, but Fabian and Olivia would also be a good one to consider, given that both characters are from The Twelfth Night.Fabian and Olivia are even further connected, if you take Olivia to mean "olive". Olive and Bean! Very sweet. I ♥ both of those names as well.
Hector is a name that I can't shake either. Everyone I've known with that name has been Hispanic, and it's been pronounced with an accent. I would prefer him paired with Cassandra. There aren't too many people reading the Iliad these days for it to be too obvious (not that it matters). I adore Cordelia as well.As to your list:Victor & Regina - - - I like the connection you made here.
Maybe this is a bit of a stretch [Ignatius and Blaise are a stretch! As long as they make sense to you, that's great!]. Ophelia & Raphael - - - I like the similar sounds here also.Dashiell & Antonia - - - I actually prefer Dashiell with Cordelia (it's stuck in my head, since I read the suggestion below). I like the stong literature connection though. =)All of your names are lovely (as well as your B/B and G/G pairings), so I'm sure you'll come up with something wonderful. Good luck! :)Thanks. The goal in asking other people was to resist matching them too obviously, like Isla and Iona. It's very difficult! =D

Oscar and Camila are my favourites.

Tristan and Ophelia would be great
Raphael and Camilla would be great too
Oscar and Camilla would be lovely
Fabian and Camilla would be very nice as well(I clearly like Camilla best of your girls list, I think it goes nicely with most of your boys options)

Tristan and Ophelia just sound sooooo sad, which I love. =POscar and Camilla work, as far as meaning goes. I like Camilla as well. Is it popular at all? I knew a Camille as a girl, and I didn't like her. =P

WowInterestingly, Paris and Cassandra was one of the few sets that I came up with. I thought that might be too obvious, but surprisingly few people [these days] actually know anything about the Trojan War besides the fact that there was a horse and a chick named Helen.I love these:
Lucian and Ilona
Milan and Ludmila

I don't like twins with to matchy names, but a subtle theme is nice. I like Ignatius & Blaise.I'm not very good at this, but how about:Raphael and Gabriela (after the angels)
Ophelia / Cordelia & Iago (Shakespeare)
Felix & Hillary / Ilaria (meaning)
Isla & Ignatius (same initials)

I don't like twins with to matchy names, but a subtle theme is nice. I like Ignatius & Blaise.Thanks. I love them. I don't like them to be matchy either, but with Isla and Iona it couldn't be helped. I came up with Isla Primrose first. Isla honors Islay, which is where my father's family is from. Primrose happened during a game. I thought it was too sweet, but I fell in love with it. After that I deliberately went searching for other Scottish islands, and the only two that worked were Iona and Skye. I can't stand the latter, so I went with Iona.I don't like the fact that they are both four letters long, and each begin with I, but I like the names, so... there it is. =PI can't justify Primrose and Rose. I just had to do it. =)I like:
Felix and Hillary, though I kind of prefer Hillaria (which is mildly ridiculous, but uncommon... which it important) =PI love the name Iago, but I hate the character it represents. You don't think going for two Shakespearean characters is too "matchy"? I was worried about that (which is silly since... Isla/Iona). =D

A few suggestions:Eira and Finnian - meaning snow and white
Hazel and Bruno - both related to the colour brown
Jayma and Tiago (or Thiago) - both related to James
Alma and Caedmon or Freya and Cathan - related to 'battle'
Amethyst and Wystan - related to 'stone'
Casimira and Perseus - 'to destroy'
Maxima and Ariston - meaning the greatest and the best

Re:I like Jayma and Tiago.
The "Y" bothers me, but I love the sound. Tiago is great. I'm always looking for variations on James; I can't believe I overlooked that one.Amethyst and Wystan are nice as well, together.I love Maxima, and would probably use Aristos instead. It's funny... my brother used heavily Greek names for his sons, though we don't have any Greek heritage that I know of. A name being too "ethnic" doesn't really bother me.These are great. Thanks.

Whenever I think of twins, whether for a CAF or even just siblings in general, if I already have my top favorites for B/B or G/G, I just take my number one top favorite for each as the B/G combo instead of picking entirely different names, but that's just me. And as a twin with a cutesy name set myself, I see absolutely no point in matching, so if anything, I'd be less inclined to pick twin names solely so that they match. Twins, like any other children I'd have, would be named because I like the names or they mean something to us, not because they're twins. They'll be reminded of that enough.

Yes! [eta]I completely agree with this. I'm also a twin and I know that when growing up twins will always be seen as a set rather than individuals. You would be doing your twins a favour by not giving them matching names because not having matching names won't make you less of a twin.
ETA: I'm not against subtle name themes at all. It's just that I can't stand twin names like Sophia and Sophie, Jake and Jack etc
There are more sophisticated ways to create a theme or relate names which I think you are trying to do. Ignatius Carlisle and Blaise Donovan are great names for twins.

Ignatius Carlisle and Blaise Donovan are great names for twins.Thanks. I know Isla and Iona are too close for comfort, but they are more about honoring my heritage (they are Scottish islands). I admit that I came up with Isla Primrose first, and went hunting for a twin that "matched".Ignatius and Blaise just... happened.I see what you guys are saying.

Well, of course I am talking only about myself, but I see twinsets as one more possibility create an interesting um...work. It doesn't need to be as stupid as "omg we have twins their names are Jack and Jake/Lily and Rose". You can also put a nice theme that is seeable only to the people who are close to you - I don't see there trying to connect the twins with one more bound. They're just born at the same time, and that gives you a chance to create a set. A very rare chance, and wouldn't it be shame not to use it?You might ask here, why not to use the same "chance" on normal siblings. Well, with twins it is already clear, how many are they, but you kan never be sure, how many children you will actually have. And so you can't really plan of a set with a theme. Imagine you've started a set with E. A. Poe-names, and end up with having six children, but after you've named four of them, you can't find any Poe-names you'll like. Well this was a stupid example, but you got the idea. :D

I agreeI'm not asking that they be "themed", just that they sound related . I couldn't possibly name my twins Bertha and Ashley, but Clara and Frances sound good together, and have no "seeable" relation. The same goes with Ignatius and Blaise. They each have a Latin origin, but the meanings are completely dissimilar. In my mind, they are connected though (which is why I said related "by a strecth").

It seems to be that you know what you will - I really like that. :)Let's see, maybe -Florian and Antonia - they both make me think of flowers. Antonia being associated with anthos, and Florian with flora.
Fabian and Dvorah - two beans. :)
Fabian and Claudia - two very Roman origins
Using Felix and Felicia might be a nice idea (I thought also of Oliver and Olivia, but they're too yeasy-to-guess) - something like
Marine Felicia and Felix Oliver
Odile Felicia and Felix Raphael (RAY-fi-el)
Ramon and Camilla - Etruscan vs Roman. This might be a little weird, but I actually like the idea.
Tristan and Letitia- sad and joyful, kinda :D
Victor and Olivia - winner and elf army. War-like...
Xavier and Priscilla - new (well, new house) and ancient.
Cordelia and Dashiell - both are names that got famous because of writersIf you like any of those, I can also try combining. :)

Nice | Combine AwayCordelia and Dashiell sound very Victorian to me. I ♥ it.I like the idea behind Tristan and Laetitia as well (I would spell her name like that)Victor and Olivia are great, even if you choose a different origin for Olivia (Latin for "olive"). The extension of an olive branch for peace... ;-)I said I liked relations by a stretch (though Isla and Iona are sickeningly similar) =PThese are very nice. If you don't mind doing combos, that would be nice.ETA: I also like the way you pronounced Raphael. I never thought of it that way! I like it much better and Rah/Fy/El.
