I'm not sure how English people would normally pronounce Ofer, as it is not so common that I think everyone would pronounce it the same way.
If it's OFF-er, it's just gross ("offer", obviously), if it's O-fer, with a good, round "oh" at the beginning, I can't say I'd like it the more for that because it sounds a bit weird. I kind of like the spelling, though.
Amos, on the other hand, is a name I'm madly in love with and have been since about two years, I guess. It's just a name I would always use, but that I don't think about all the time. It's kind of a classic for me. I love the sound and look of it, and I don't find it is a "fat" name at all. What do you even mean exactly by "fat"?
