I have a young relative +whose mddle name is Albert. So named, because it's his mother's maiden surname.

I find Albert a bit doddering and unappealing but I have a soft spot for the nn Albie. It just sounds so sweet for a little boy, but I know it wouldn't age well :-(

I never thought of Albie as a nn before. You're right; it's adorable but not something he could carry the rest of his life.

Im not crazy about the name but I think it would be refreshing.

I think Albert is probably up next for a revival. I think the nickname Bert is cute, but I don't know how well that would go over - is Bert and Ernie the first thing that comes to everyone's minds??I like the short "Alby" too...Al is a little plain for my tastes.I think an interesting but still historical name would make it nice and snappy as opposed to musty.Albert Fitzpatrick

I like the fact that it has very little popularity (but still in the top 1000 in the US) and it's a good classic name. However, the sound and look doesn't appeal to me. I do like Al- names, but I think the "bert" is a turn off. Al, Bert, Albe, Ert = nicknames I can think of. I like Albe but I don't think it ages well.
