Jesse and Eli
These are two boys' names I've been pondering lately. I find Jesse quirky and handsome, and it has some interesting namesakes. The only thing that bugs me is that it's so close to Jessie in sound.
Eli: I know it's a bit "nicknamey" but it is a name in its own right and overall I prefer it to other El- names like Elijah, Elias and so forth. It's also the name of a rabbi I know from whom I've learned a lot of things.

I really love Jesse. I always thought it was totally effeminate and inappropriate on a boy until I met my now ex-boyfriend. He made me love it. Now when I hear "Jess(i)e", I think of a boy first before I think of a Jessica.
Eli annoys me so much. In fact, I started watching that series "Eli Stone" and had to stop after about half an hour because I couldn't stand the name anymore. I think it's the fact that my initial reaction would be to pronounce it like Elly, but it's this ugly EEEEEEEEEEE-lieeeeeeeeeee. It seems so over the top and unnatural to me somehow. And dragged out.

Jess-names are wonderful in general - so opened, smiling and not taking themselves too seriously. Weird, but this description fits by me even Jessica, which most of people tend to consider serious and mature. Lol. I have a few associations with Jesse I dislike, but I'm still happy to see it in BA's.
Mm, I'm having problems with Eli. Elias (although it is very overused where I live) and Elijah are both on my PNL, but I've no good nicknames to them except the most logical Eli. A good reason to start liking it, too, but I just can't. There seems to be nothing to catch in it. The ee at the beginning + lie at the end - no durable letters, everything is so short and slippery in Eli. Ill eye. :P
...oh well, maybe this is because I tend to dislike names with strongly pointed "l"s. I dislike Lily, Lulu, Lolly &co for the same reasons as Eli. Only Lou has survived from my problematic relationship with "l". :D
