I adore Ailsa (m)
I used to suggest Ailsa all the time on another site. But no one seemed to like it so I gave up. I'm thrilled someone else loves it too. :-)I pronounce it the same way you do, "AYL-suh." Growing up I was addicted to BBC dramas on PBS (U.S.). Many of the programs were sponsored by (or given a grant by) the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Foundation (or something like that). That's where I first heard it. Utterly lovely and, as you say, spunky at the same time.
My standby combination for it is Ailsa Margaret, but I've never put any real effort into finding a mn for it, to be honest. From your list I love:Ailsa Victoria (Queen Vic named her dd Alice, which is similar)
Ailsa Claire
Ailsa MadelineHmmm. Let's see. How about:Ailsa Margot / Mairead / Margery / Marjorie
Ailsa Gwendolen
Ailsa Bridget / Brigid
Ailsa Winifred
Ailsa Kathryn / Cathleen
Ailsa Vivien
Ailsa Rosamund
Ailsa Caroline
Ailsa Hilary
Ailsa Georgine
Ailsa Valerie
Ailsa Bryony
Ailsa Verity (Uh oh. Do I hear "severity" in there? "Ale severity?")
Ailsa Jessamine
Ailsa Muriel
Ailsa Bronwen
Ailsa Pauline
Ailsa Daphne
Ailsa Myfanwy
Ailsa Valentine
Ailsa GenevieveWhat say you?
