I love Juliet! When I was a kid I didn't like it so much (preferred Julie or Julia, but they weren't my favorites either) but it has definitely grown on me since then.
Yes, it makes me think of the play, but I love the play, so that's fine with me. She might get a few Romeo comments, but I don't think it would be too much.
I like either spelling. Probably for an English speaking child I'd choose Juliet though because Juliette feels very French.
I know one Juliet (age 17). I don't know if she every got teased. She has a younger brother Jonah, which wasn't one of your questions, but I think Juliet and Jonah make a cute sibset. I also went to high school with a Juliet (age 22 now) but I didn't actually know her...
