Romanian names
Due to my recent Gogol Bordello obsession, I decided to dig up some Romanian names. Here are the ones I liked. WDYT? I included all accents (except for the stupid ones that wouldn't show up... because I've always thought that they really make a name look beautiful.
GIRLS:
Brândusa (means "crocus"... isn't that gorgeous?)
Constanta (possibly the only feminine form of Constantine that I like)
Daciana
Ileana
Ilinca
Ioana
Iolanda
Luminita (long-time favorite of mine)
Rahela (this is so beautiful)
Sorina
Viorica (means "bluebell")
BOYS:
Ciprian
Cosmin
Costica (great nn for Constantine, no?)
Emil / Emilian
Gavril
Horatiu
Ilie
Laurentiu
Lucian
Mihail (much more interesting than just Michael)
Neculai (I love this, but it's too similar to nucleus)
Octavian
Petru (so cute!)
Rãzvan
Serafim
Teodor
My favorites are Brândusa, Luminita, Rahela, Emil, Horatiu, Petru and Rãzvan.

I like all of those to some extent. I had a good friend in high school from Romania named Mihaela and her sisters were Violeta and Lacramioara. They also had step-siblings named Benjamin, Simona, and Michael.

I know a Romanian sibset called Florin and Florina. :) I love both names but since I met them have always wondered if such a thing is common in Romania or just particular to that family.

My husband is Romanian & although we did not choose Romanian names for our children, there are lots of beautiful ones. I am actually not familiar with Mihail- I think it's actually Mihai (Me-Hi), but would have to ask my husband to be sure. His name is Ioan, pronounced E-Juan (like the letter E & then Juan from Spanish), which I think is very lovely. Elena, Aurelian, Bianca, Regina, Georgetta (nickname Getta, like Jetta), Emil, Pavel, Anastasia, etc are all names from his family or inner circle.
