I love James, it's the only boy's name on my list that doesn't change. I know the meaning is a bit off putting but plenty of names have pretty negative meanings, like Mary. It runs in my family on both sides - there is 4 in my close family (all with different nicknames of course :)) including my dad, so if I have a son he will definitely have James in his name.
and another one of it's good points is that I think it goes with pretty much any name! James Augustus isn't my own taste but a perfectly good combo.

However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love".
