Re: Elizabeth
I'm not a fan. I never understood why it's still so common, I think it's harsh sounding, dated (in a classic-dated kind of way, like Amanda and Rebecca are dated) and unattractive (sorry, no offense). I think names that most people see as dated (Lucille or even Mabel, Dorothy and Mildred) are much more charming than Elizabeth and I really don't get why it's still common. Even Mary is almost out of the top 100 yet Elizabeth just doesn't leave.I think of the queen. As she is portrayed in the movie Elizabeth by Cate Blanchett. I'm not a big fan of the movie and I always think of her in her older years when she was a bit overweight and had that weird pale face and that serious expression on her face all of the time. When I see Elisabeth I think of my friend who is Elisabeth, nn Betty. She is the only Elisabeth/Elizabeth I know. The name is seen as really dated here in Germany and is hardly used for babies.I prefer Elisabeth but it doesn't make much of a difference. When I see Alison and Allison I find Alison much more attractive but with Elizabeth and Elisabeth it doesn't really matter.I guess I like Libby quite a bit and Lily (prefer this on its own or as a nn for Lillian, Liliana etc). It's still a mystery to me how you get all those nicknames out of Elizabeth though. I understand Beth and Eliza or Eli, Liz and Lizzie but the other don't make sense unless you pronounce it the German way, then Betty makes sense as well.
