What do you think of the name Florence? Could a little girl named Florence steer away from the nickanme Flo?

I love Flora and Fleur, but I'm not so fond of Florence. I love old-fashioned names, but some like Mildred and Myrtle, I just can't warm to, no matter how hard I try. :b Also, Florence automatically makes me think of Florence Henderson and the horrible clothes of the 1970s. LOL.

Whenever I hear this name it reminds me of Florence Henderson who played Carol on The Brady Bunch. I like Flo though. :)

I really like Florence. It was my great-grandmother's name and my it's my mum's mn, so I might use it as a mn. It's quite pretty, imo.If think that a child could get away from the nn 'Flo'. If she was ever called 'Flo', then she could say, "My name Florence, not Flo" and hopefully the offender would not repeat it.

There are a lot of nice nn from Florence! Flora, Florie, Flossie, Floren, or even Lorie or Loren! :)I like it but I'd tend to use it more as a middle name because that's how it's used in my family, my great-g-ma was Marjorie Florence, her daughter was Marilyn Florence and her mother was hmm...her first name was Florence! :)

I like it!I think Florence is a pretty name. Flora would be a cute nn, especially better than Flo. I have the same feeling about Elizabeth. I like the whole name, but no nns. I think if the parent calls them the full name or a nn they like, relatives and people close to the family wil catch on. By the time the child is old enough to care what friends call her, she will have made her own decision, so if little Florence wants to be called Flo, her friends can, but that doesn't mean it has to change at home.

I knew a little girl named Florence and they called her Floor... I think if the parents would start calling her Florry or Flora, the nn Flo can be avoided. I think Florence will have a nn eventually, so I think if you'd call her florence all the time, her friend will call her Flo anyway
