Re: Jade

1. What do you think of Jade for a girl? I hate it, it's tacky. I admit I find it somewhat refreshing on a boy but it is still tacky
2. Do you think it's a bit dated to the late 90s? Yep, definitely. It is very 90s/late 80s and I think it is still overused in the mn position.
3. Do you think it's trashy? I have to admit, I do sound like a hypocrite when I am giving my opinions on 'stone' names. Jewel, Jade and Crystal are so tacky they are beyond redemption in my mind. Whereas if I had a baby girl right this minute, she would be named Ruby and I don't find that trashy or tacky. I think it is to do with the socio-economic groups that more commonly use the different names, as snobby as that sounds. In Australia anyway, names like Crystal (and Kristle, Krystle etc) and Jade (and Jayde, Jaide etc) were always common in areas with a lower socioeconomic majority. In contrast, names like Ruby, Opal, Garnet, Jasper and Pearl which are usually considered "old lady" names are far more likely to be used by couples in higher socio-economic brackets. Which is probably also why Jasper and Opal might often be viewed as poncey
4. Do you know anybody named Jade? or Jayde (spelling variations)? Do you know how old they are or their middle names? Do you know many girls who have Jade as a middle name?
I know a couple of Jades and know of a Jayde and a Jaid. I have a friend named Casey Jade and my little brother has a good friend who is Madison Jade. Most Jades I know or know of are aged from 22-10
5. Do you prefer an alternate spelling? Jayde, Jaid, Jaide etc?
No way. If Jade is to be used at all, please spell it the correct way
6. Do you think it's boring or filler as a middle name? Yes, it is predictable. 'Cute', one syllable and trendy and sounds good with most names. It is a no-brainer really
7. Do you like Estella Jade? I do like Estella and the flow of Estella Jade is good. But why cheapen Estella?
8. Estella Jade and Adelaida True for sisters? or Estella Brooke and Adelaida True?
I think both Jade and Brooke cheapen the delightful Estella. Adelaide True is stunning. What about:
Estella Joy
Estella May
Estella Ivy
Estella Cate
Estella Opal
Estella Ruby
Estella Pearl
Estella June
Estella Jane
Estella Daisy
Estella Rose
Estella Caltha
Estella Fleur
Estella Iris
Estella Isis
Estella Sian
Estella Elen

Thanks for the middle name suggestions! I've been trying for ages to come up with a nice middle name for Estella. I really like Estella Pearl. I'll never be able to decide between Estella Jade, Brooke and Pearl :P Estella Rose is beautiful but I know about 40+ girls with Rose as their middle name (Chloe Rose, Hayley Rose, Stephanie Rose, Charlotte Rose etc etc). I also like Estella May...for some reason I really want a one syllable middle name for Estella. I also thought of Estella Fay...
Is Christie (as a full name) considered lower class in Australia? Just wondering, when I went there I met heaps of rather uneducated girls who were named just Christie.
hmmmm my theory is that jewel names all become tacky. maybe I'm wrong, though. but i remember when Jade first became popular it was used by the upper class and then the lower class picked it up and it became hugely popular there. maybe it's because you can think of fake jewelery when you hear them.

I don't think Jade was ever used by the upper-class here in Australia. Ever.
Christie/Kristy/Kristi/Crysti etc as a full name is pretty restricted to the lower classes here I think. But it's hard to say- I am sure there are those from wealthier backgrounds named Christine, Christina or Kristin that go by Kristy occasionally...
