Salem?

No
It might have significance to you, there might be other towns named Salem other than Salem, Mass., Salem Mass. itself might presently be a charming quaint town, the fact remains that the main, obvious association for this name is the ghastly witch trial. I really don't get why people consider it as a name.
For me, it's little better than naming a child "Moscow Purge" or "Hollywood Blacklist".
If you REALLY want to use it I guess it's bearable as a mn, for a boy.

Some people don't think of the witch trials automatically though, like at all.
Hope your day is going well, I'm sure it's better then mine (I'm sick, bleh).

Well, I might be slightly biased because I studied history and I'm reading Miller's "The Crucible" but I think it remains a very obvious association (even if not the main one) esp. for Americans, that you can't ignore if you want to use it as a name, just on the grounds that not every single person might make the connection.
Hope you feel better soon! :-)

My sister had a black cat named Salem. I can only picture it on a cat, sorry.
Salem sounds like a cat's name. I don't like it.
I love it as [m]
a NN for Jerusalem for either gender or on a boy by itself.
