Celeb Baby
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz gave birth to their son, Bronx Mowgli Wentz. Your thoughts?First, I don't really care about the parents as celebrities. I do however think the name sounds ridiculous. The names clash and there is absolutely no sense of order in the name. The first name is trendy and the middle name just doesn't go. I mean, I could understand using Mowgli if maybe Jungle Book is your favorite book or you love Rudyard Kipling, but otherwise I don't see a purpose.

Bronx is an extraordinary conglomeration of all of my least favorite sounds.

I think it's sophisticated and elegant. Now that got your attention, didn't it? ;-)It's a ghastly name. But I try not to worry myself too much with the affairs of celebrities. What can you do, you know? At least the boy won't be living in "normal" society, so he won't be seriously bullied about his name. And, at the very least, it's better than Peaches Honeyblossom Michelle Charlotte Angel Vanessa Drummey Nee Geldof; her sisters, Fifi Trixibelle Geldof and Pixie Geldof; and her half sister, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence. Now that nearly makes Bronx Mowgli look bearable, doesn't it? :-P

maybe I'm weird butI actually like the Geldof sisters' names better than Bronx Mowgli. At least they can choose. Peaches isn't that bad, it's actually kind of sweet plus she could go by Michelle, Vanessa or Angel, which are pretty normal, or even the lovely classic Charlotte. Fifi could go by Belle, Pixie, well, maybe she has a middle name as well....and the other girl could just go by Lily or Tiger so it really isn't as bad as Bronx Mowgli. They could have given him ONE decent name at least.

Aww, come on; I like the Geldof-Hutchence names. Really.

You say really. Do you mean, really--not?

No, I mean I really like the Geldof-Hutchence names.I mean what I said. I realize I'm in the minority, but that's par for the course for me.

can't get past bronx!!It's not the first time I've seen it used and do people not realize what it means? It is like labelling the kid Ghetto Slum [insert middle name] or Trailer Park Sally! In the case of my small town, we have one or two streets that are considered 'the bronx' because that is where the not so fortunate families on welfare in housing commission houses and with a million kids each live, a lot of whom turn out to be teenage parents themselves but they sure as hell don't turn around and call their kids "Tobruk Avenue" or the kid would grow up the laughing stock of town. For a 'well off' person in comparison or a celebrity to use such a stupid kind of term as Bronx for a name totally bemuses me! It doesn't even sound nice regardless of meaning.

What a stupid name....Bronx, I bet if Ashlee and Pete have even been to the Bronx it was over for a Yankee game. And I didn't even understand what the middle name was before people started saying that it was from the Jungle Book. If they wanted a literature name they should have went with a more different one like Romeo, Caspian, or even Othello or Rodya (short form of the main character in Crime and Punishment in some English versions)

So he's a wild boy from Bronx? It's horrible!nm
vote up1
BTW, if you change the name Ashlee just a little bit.......but putting an "r" between A and S, plus removing the H and the last E, you get the Swedish word for a**. And it's pr. almost like Ashlee. :)
vote up1
That reminds me of how Perez Hilton calls her Asslee Simpson, or something along those lines.

...could this possibly be a "press name"?- and he's really a Brendan Michael or a Pete the 3rd or something less horrendously laughable. That way, the joke's on us and our celebrity-culture obsession, instead of "Bronx Wentz".I actually very much prefer euphonious made up names to this trainwreck of weird connotations and bizarre sounds.
vote up1
That's what I was thinking. I hope so.
vote up1
Yah, that is very possible when it comes to many celebrities, however in this case I highly doubt that is a reasonable explanation. I truly believe it is his name.
Honestly, if celebrities don't want the press to know their children's names why not take a hint from Christian Bale and not just tell it at all? His daughter is what, like three or four and no-one has yet to find out her name.
vote up1
I really hope this is true, but with Pete Wentz, it's probably his real name. Also, it would be Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz the 4th if they went with the family name.It was probably born with a stick of eyeliner in it's hand, too...

Actually, that's nowhere near as bad as it could be. Bronx isn't terrible, though I don't know why anyone would want to name their kid after the place, and Mowgli is silly but it's just a mn.
vote up1
Actually...come to think of it, Bronx Wentz is pretty unattractive, and I'm being generous when I say that. When I first gave my opinion, I was thinking of the whole combo, which is silly but flows better than Bronx Wentz (ugh) does. BTW, did you notice that his initials are BMW?
vote up1
not to be confused with Jungle Mowgli

lol :D

It's apalling, and confirms my idea that celebrities use naming their kids as a publicity stunt.
Come on Bronx? You might as well call your child: "Impoverished and Dangerous Inner City Neighbourhood". The thing is, seeing the popularity of Brooklyn, it might get picked by "normal" people.
Mowgli with Bronx is bizarre, and not a great name anyway, Kipling ot no Kipling.
vote up1
horrible... I almost expected something half decent from them too. Some over the top 'classical/victorian/historic' name.Almost.
vote up1
If you look at it......from my view, I say, Hey, Pete and Ashlee. Let's give YOU ridiculous non-names and see how YOU enjoy going through life with them. Ashlee, you are no longer "Ashlee," but "Brainwave Lunchbag." Pete, you will now be known as "Pumpernickel Slinky."Have fun.
vote up1
Pumpernickel Slinky is amazing!
vote up1
hmm.I don't disagree with the sentiment that celebrity parents should treat their kids' names more seriously, and I don't like Bronx Mowgli as a name much, but I don't think Bronx Mowgli is anywhere near as absurd as Brainwave Lunchbag or whatever. It's not like place names are uncommon, and Mowgli is at least the name of a fictional character, not a random object (plus, it looks like it's just the MN).I'd kind of love to see someone named Pumpernickel, though. Just because it's fun to say. *g*

Those are so much more fitting than their current ones.Srsly.

Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz IIII would've been a far better choice, imo.
vote up1
But really, did anyone expect to see anything but a trainwreck name from those two?
vote up1
Mowgli means "frog", by the way.
vote up1
wow...I like Mowgli though
vote up1
I told a friend in school about itand we laughed. A lot.
What a horrible name! My friend didn't actually believe me at first when I told her that his middlename was Mowgli ! Sure, Mowgli is cute, but not on a real child. Oh oh. Brauhnx Moewglyh would have been even worse, though.
vote up1
I think it's terrible but I didn't expect anything better from them. They seem really uneducated and dumb (sorry). I actually thought they'd go with something common/trendy such as Jayden or Madison.
vote up1
Move over, Audio Science......we have a new horrible, horrible celeb baby name.Bronx Mowgli Wentz. WHAT!?
vote up1
I'm all for "unique" names, but...Bronx Mowgli?!?! *turns green*
vote up1
Sounds like a racial slur!
vote up1
Okay, I feel stupid...(m)I am not getting it. Can someone point it out further for me?
vote up1
Well of course it's not really a racial slur, but...Mowgli is a little jungle child, right? So that in itself could be twisted into a racial slur, and when combined with Bronx, which is an area with a considerable amount of racial minorities...I just think it sounds bad.ETA: Many believe and find evidence that Rudyard Kipling was a racist, which probably adds to the vibe to me.But seriously, BRONX MOWGLI. It's like naming your kid Ghetto Tarzan or something.

Ghetto Tarzan, LOL
vote up1
As far as I know, Mowgli isn't actually used as a racial slur. But I can see where it almost sounds one, as if it refers to "savage" people or something. So, hypothetically, a Bronx Mowgli would be a way to refer to someone who lives in an urban place but racist people still consider "savage" because he's perhaps darker skinned. But like I said, this is all kind of moot because I don't think it really IS a slur. It just sounds like it could be one. Hope that makes sense (and really, that's just what popped into my head; others might feel differently).

I hadn't noticed... *headdesk*

...Oh dear, it kind of does!Ahahaha. Haha. Ha. Oh. D:

Lol. I thought so too!

Ahahahahahahahah...hahahahahahaha.Why are some people so dead set on ridiculing their children as much as possible? D:

Maybe he caused her a lot of labor painsand she felt like punishing him. That's the only possible reason I can come up with.BRONX.
MOWGLI.EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
vote up1
It definitely smacks of trying too hard to be hip. It is so celeb-tryndee. Blech.
vote up1
On a side note...I'm afraid I'm a nitpicker when it comes to details like this. "Ashlee and Pete" didn't give birth. Just Ashlee. :pThe name is... meh. I've been waiting for a celeb to use Bronx. It only makes sense: add Brooklyn Beckham to all the X-boys of the Jolie-Pitt family, you get Bronx. Mowgli is the same as Atreyu, imo. Fictional little-boy heroes.
vote up1
Yah, I noticed that when I wrote it but when you think about it...both parents go through labor if they are both involved. I don't think Mowgli is a bad name per say, I just think it is terrible with Bronx.
vote up1
Lol!"Ashlee and Pete" didn't give birth. Just Ashlee.*laughs*
vote up1
EwFor some reason I was expecting something decent from them.Oh well.
vote up1
Oh and his initials--- BMW.nice :P
vote up1
I don't think it's that bad, really. It's not particularly good either, but Bronx is just another place name. And I don't know, maybe they are Jungle Book/Rudyard Kipling fans.
vote up1
Makes Zuma Nesta look less stupidOr maybe they're equally bad, Bronx just feels so much tackier and trashier. Mowgli is hilarious. This really isn't befitting of a rock star OR a president. Try again Ashley and Pete. Please rethink before committing it to the birth certificate.
vote up1
wow vomit vomit vomit.......that is terrible. what can you expect from people like them though, really.
vote up1
Wasn;t their dog named after an author? But yes, it's terrible.Bronx Wentz sounds awkward.
Even Mowgli Bronx Wentz would sound better. At least then he could be called Moe.Terrible. Tryhard.
vote up1
Brangelina must be kicking themselves.... Simpson/Wentz have stolen their next son's name. And the Dog is called Hemingway.

Ha ha. Very true. And yes, in this case, I'd rather hear of a Hemingway Wentz than Bronx Wentz. I feel like I have a speech impendement when I say it. Then again, Pete always tends to feel the need to be over the top so congrats to him and Ashlee on reaching that point.

So they gave their pooch a more respectable name than their son? Nice.:
vote up1
Yeah, it really is very bad! It's like they're trying to be as "unique" as possible or something. No doubt I'll get used to Bronx, since it has that trendy "x" sound, but Mowgli just seems ridiculous to me.
vote up1
Yeah there's a definite clash with this name...it just sounds garbled. Bronx Wentz doesn't sound good, and I really don't understand Bronx as a name (and I'm pretty open-minded about names). I do like Mowgli though; I think the fact that it alludes to the little boy in The Jungle Book is really neat.
vote up1
Wow, that's a whole new shade of bad.
vote up1
I JUST read about that.I agree, absolutely ridiculous.
