It's my youngest sister's name. She is Pamela Jill. She's forty-six years old now. She always goes by Pam. As a child it was Pammy, which just seemed to naturally shorten itself to Pam as she grew older.
The only other Pamela I've known was a friend's daughter, who was a child at the time I knew her, but would be twenty-three now. She was called Pamela and Pam about half and half. I don't remember her middle name.
I pronounce it PAM-meh-la. I like it, and think it was the best name my mother came up with. I think it stands more of a chance of coming back sooner than other fifties names.
