HelpPrettier way to pronounce Morrigan, even if it's incorrect?
I saw it was supposed to be something like MOR-ee-an, but I was wondering if it was prettier another way, like MOR-i-gan or MOR-ee-gan. Even if it is incorrect, just please tell me the Prettiest pronounciation, NOT the correct pronounciation.

I have always used Morr-i-gan - sometimes when talking to Irish scholars and have not been corrected. Just because Ree-on is the correct usage for Rioghan in Nua-Gaeilge or Modern Irish doesn't mean it is the correct usage in Sean-Gaelige(Old Irish). AFAIK the "gh" would have been sounded in Old Irish. Pronunciation shifts in diphthongs and letters are quite common in languages as they evolve - Nua-Gaeilge has evolved from Sean-Gaeilge, through Mean-Gaeilge(Middle Irish) to the Irish we know today. It does not actually make sense to prn Morrigan as Mor-ee-an in Modern Irish.
I do agree it's silly to wilfully pick and use a wrong pronunciation if you know better, just because it's pretty. I would be hypocritical if I said this didn't drive me crazy sometimes, actually. However as Indialove pointed out even in Ireland the same name can be pronounced several different ways.
However it also makes me feel uncomfortable, to say the least, when people take as Btn's pronunciation of a name as blind fact. Yes, Btn's database is a wonderful resource and is usually right but(and I am only going by Irish names) is not always right. The entry for Liadan, for example makes me frustrated. So just because it says Mor-ee-an in the database doesn't make it right.
So in other words I prefer Morr-i-gan and use it in preference and have always assumed it to the right prn. It's the pronunciation I have heard in Ireland without exception.

The correct pronounciation is the prettiest the other two ways sound like an attempt to adapt the name to the surnamey trend and just sound ugly to my ears

I've always said MOR-i-gan, not knowing it should be MOR-ee-an, and now that's so grown on me that I like that best.

You can't just decide which pronunciation you like best and use that one. Names have one pronunciation. If you don't like the pronunciation, find a different name.
And for the record, I find MOR-ee-an infinitely nicer than MOR-ih-gan or MOR-ee-gan.

One pronunciation?
Names don't necessarily have "one" pronunciation. In my year at schoo there are about eight girls called "Saiorse", and I swear, each of them pronounces their name a different way. We've got "SOR-sha", "SEER-sha", "SOR-kah", "SEER-kah", "SOR-see"...I realise some of those aren't the traditional pronunciations, but I don't believe anyone has the right to decide which way they pronounce their own NAME!

Agree completely.
Hundreds of names are pronounced the way they are because they were adapted and changed throughout time. Think Oprah. IMO, She can pronounce it however she likes.
As for the OP, I personally like MOR-i-gan best.

Well, of course you CAN pronounce any name however you like. It just makes you look silly.
On topic: I always thought MOR-i-gan was correct but I have no clue about Irish pronounciation. I find the other way much more pleasant.

Ummm, Most people on here do ask things just for fun. You don't have the authority to dictate how people pronounce names, and then blame them for your rudeness.

You don't have to be snarky. You are asking *on an etymology site* the best way to mispronounce a name. It doesn't sit well with posters who are here vs. a baby name site because this site values accuracy and history, not just pleasing sounds.
Your original post didn't make it clear that you had no intentions of continuing to mispronounce it.
That said, I don't really care much for any pronunciation or mispronunciation of Morrigan. If I had to chose, MOR-ee-an. I don't like the hard G sound much in girls names.

My sis has a character on WoW named Morrigan and she pronounces it like MOR-ee-gan. I think that is the prettiest way, but probably just because I am used to hearing it the most.
