Brandy
I just met a little girl named Brandy, about 4 years old. I was a bit shocked to be honest.
I have met quite a few girls named Brandy, Brandi and Brandie and I just don't understand why people would name their daugters that. I mean Brandy and Brandi were both in the top 50 in the 80s. WHY ? I don't get it. didn't the alcohol exist back then ?
do you know any brandys and know why their parents chose that name ?

The store where I work has 6 Brandy/Brandie/Brandee's (yes a Brandee!) Ugh, I hate this name, and I hate how overused it was in the 70's-80's. I can't believe anyone is still using it, that poor girl!
Why would you name your daughter after an alcoholic drink?
WHY?
WHY?
I've known a few Brandys and yes, most are in their 20s now or close on either side. The alcohol has been around a lot longer than that... and I don't know why their parents chose to call them Brandy... Met a woman a few years ago named Martini.
At camp, we know a couple of Brandys, so we did a pic of them together sitting on a big rock with some other rocks around and titled it "Double Brandy on the Rocks".

Yeah, I grew up in the 80s.
I know several, several Brandy/i/ies. The only one I know who had a purpose behind the naming had a headful of hair the exact color of the liquor when she was born.
Otherwise it was just a popular name. A girl in our family also has a daughter who's a year old. She's an Ashley. Some people just don't get the message that the name is out of date.
It could be so SO much worse, though.

She is going to have a terrible time once she hits middle school. Apart from the obvious alcohol, all I see is "randy". No good that I can see from come from that name.

I'm not a fan of the name Brandy but I feel I must go on the offense here:
It's a common enough name, at least well known enough among the younger generation, that I doubt she'll be teased for her name. As another poster noted, it was immensely popular in the 80s, plus there's a famous celebrity with the name. And, if the child is in America, I doubt anyone will even think of the word "randy."
No offense to you or your opinion, of course, it just irks me when people complain about a name like being detrimental to a child when there are kids out there with names like Violence and Murder, etc...

Yeah Brandy/Brandi is okay, but it seems very 80's to me. I know a lot of ppl named Brandy in their 20's...with the exception of one middle schooler
It's okay, nothing special IMO.

I love it.
I have a sister named Brandy. She was adopted into my family so I do not know why her biological mother chose that name.
Brandi (especially with the i) is the ultimate trash name for me. I didn't even think Brandy was still in the Top 1000 but apparently it was place 888 in 2007. Brandi made 985. Ugh.
It's the same with Bobbi and Billie. Every time I hear of little girls with those names I go, "Huh? Isn't that trend so yesterday?"
