You may also like Ophelia/ Ofelia, which I love just as much as Octavia and Olivia.

I love it, but I don't care much for the meaning having to do with the number 8. I prefer names that mean something as well as sounding nice... insinuating the name is given because the child is the 8th born bugs me a little.

I don't particularly think it is a replacement for Olivia, though. I also may be one of the few here that doesn't hate the name Olivia. I have a little niece with that name, and she is darling. I know the bare reference to olives is a bit boring, too, but from Athena to Noah's Ark, olive trees have always been associated with peace. I like that.

I love Octavia (occasional nn Tavie). It's one of my favorite female names, definitely in my top twenty. It's a strong, beautiful, feminine, and interesting name.

It's so strong and sophisticated. It makes me think of the nice rich brown polished wood on a piano. I don't know why though, and that's probably a weird thing to think, but it's a cool association. Octavia. Piano wood. :D

Although I have to admit it's still on my GP list and not my normal list. :) I think the nn Tavi (TAY-vee) is so cute.

I absolutely love Octavia (though I can't stand Olivia and therefore don't see it as a replacement). I would definitely consider using it. It sounds great and has a lot of history.
