Poppy and Harlow
wdyt of Poppy and Harlow ? I dislike Poppy but Harlow is growing on me. I think it's a bit surprising how Harlow didn't make the top 1000 in 2007. Nicole Richie's daughter had already been born. and Isla Fisher had Olive at the same time and the name did enter the top 1000 immediately. And I would say Nicole Richie is better known. Do you think Poppy or Harlow will become popular ?

Poppy is already popular in the UK. It will never be in the US because "poppy" sounds like the Spanish word for father.
Harlow is a masculine-sounding surname. It probably will become popular (and will probably be very, very high when it enters the charts) because it's the next Ava of the celebrity world.

Poppy is already popular in the UK, so I can easily see it getting popular in the US, along with Polly.
Poppy is one of those names that I do sort of like as a guilty pleasure, but hate the floral association and nickname feel. I would use it as a nickname for Penelope. Unfortuanately, I fear Penelope is going to become popular too. At one point choicing Penelope was bold but not anymore... it's so annoying.
I'm unsure of Harlow. I think it will get a little more attention being Nicole Richie's daughter, and also a surname and a name (surname) of an old Hollywood startlet which helped Ava's rise. But frankly, I think some of the public is catching on to these trends and they are getting tired of them. Plus Harlow sounds sort of trashy to me, and I think some others will agree. These forces could work against Harlow.

They both make me sad inside.
I can totally see Harlow becoming the next trend. Poppy might, too, but I object! I'm just picturing a grown woman in a corporate office in an interview, trying to be taken seriously for her accomplishments, and her resume says "Poppy Grant" and the hiring committee is snickering... I think it could be a cute nickname for a child, but it is very young sounding.
this may sound ridiculous, but I have actually worked places where the office manager made fun of names on resumes, and sometimes wouldn't even respond to them.
I call my daughter "Kitty" all the time, but no one else does, and I wouldn't want her to go through her adult life with that pet name.

I don't know that either would even be considered popular. Though I wouldn't likely choose Poppy myself (of course, for a great-granddaughter of a WW1 or WW2 vet or someone born on Remembrance/Veteran's Day, I suppose it may be appropriate), it's at least better than Harlow... Harlow would be bearable on a boy, but should not e inflicted on a girl. I'm not sure from the context of message if you're thinking of Harlow in reference to a boy or a girl. These days, one's not always sure.
I think Olive was on its way already, before Isla Fisher I had heard several very normal people mention how charming and old-fashioned Olive was.
Harlow will probably be in top 1000 soon definitely. Poppy? Maybe. I dunno. It's cute though. I have always liked the name Poppa, which is a very old medieval name given to a few people I've read about. Then I realized it sounded exactly like Papa and began to have misgivings.

Both are kind of Poppy is more
Poppy is already popular here in the UK. I think it's sweet. It was my favourite name seven years ago, but have since gone off it slightly.
Harlow is NMS at all and yes, I can imagine it becoming very popular.

I think Olive probably became popular because it was the name of the girl in Little Miss Sunshine. I know my friend and her partner were considering that name after seeing the film. It also sounds a lot like Olivia.
I really hate Harlow and I hope it doesn't become popular. Poppy is already popular in Britain. If the trend for flower names like Lily and Daisy continues then Poppy could become popular. I'm not keen on it myself. It sounds a bit silly to me, much as I like poppies.
